Camille winds pegged out the gauge at 200 MPH. We were without water and electricity for 16 days.

Actually, the insulated vinyl boards we have now are quite tough. You can hit them with a baseball bat, hard, with no perceptible damage. Most likely, if they are torn off the house, they will be basically undamaged, except that something sharp enough could get through the outer skin (but that would be true of most housing materials).

Even our tool shed (which is built by a local company) is built to code and secured for 130 mph.

When we added an addition a few years ago, we had to bring every part of the house up to Miami-Dade code (our county uses Miami Dade code and if the addition is more than 1/4 of the existing home sq footage, entire house must be upgraded.)

So that meant all new windows, new doors, new roof, etc. The hurricane straps to hold the roof over the deck must have had a zillion holes in them, LOL. The carpenters complaing A LOT, but I'm glad now that everything is up to code.

Nothing but green coming up I-75 now, and it looks like it stops around Griffin.

I see that. It was a wide band barreling north and appeared it would be done by about 8. It seemed to slow down or add rain, I don't know which.

Heard on the radio today that there are about 40,000 homes in Florida that haven't been repaired from last year....you are going to be busy for a long time!

For Sure !! In Escambia county where I am, of the 155,000 plus homes, over 90% sustained some damage during Ivan. It looks like Dennis could set a new record.

"do you think this thing is done yet?"

Nope, not even done deepening.. and winds haven't even quite caught up. I'm thinking we see this go to the low 930s now... not sure it will hit land at that (sure hope not). New IR frames look like the bands around the eye are expanding. Symmetry is good, only plus is the width (for now). We haven't seen a true eye wall replacement yet this evening either, if we see that - it strengthens more. I think it will hit cat5 at some point.

That's why it's a "breather".

I'll be able to get down into the mouth of the culvert and give it a good clean before the next band.

He has been yelling about New Orleans for days

Was he the one saying that if Havana took a direct hit, NO was in sight? I don't think the experts were expecting a direct hit on Havana. Speaking of which, I wonder what the real story is down there. Castro is probably the only one on the island with ac or even so much as a roof over his head.

Don't worry about it. I just had a talking to by NautiNurse, suggesting that I refrain from posting graphics larger than 50k. Some peoples ISP connections at this time are tenuous at best. They may be able to maintain a connection indefinitely, until their pipe gets chugged. Once they lose their ISP connection, they may never get it back again (since they might not get a dial tone back due to all the emergency traffic).

May I suggest that those of us who can host do so and utilize HTML IMG height/width SRC= paramaaters? Furthermore, we could also implement the embedded mouse over context balloon (thereby showing a link to either the source and/or full sized image (IMG SRC= size can be intimated either in the balloon and/or posted text)?

That's just my $0.02 1/2. I'm certain we can find some way to get along with each other's needs at this critical juncture in time.

For those of you who, at this time, are heading off into 12 hours of darkness (and for the most part an unimaginable terror - quite imaginable to me only in I am a 1980 David survivor), my prayers are with you. I pray that you all remain in His grip (Psa 33:3,4). I pray that flying things will avoid you, and that you stay out of the way of those flying things that are obdurate in that regard.

TO ALL IN DENNIS' fury: In 12 hours time, I will be attending Lord's supper services and I will be presenting all of your collective plights before the Lord's throne (at His feet) for His consideration. WHEREVER you may find yourself tomorrow morning (whether it be in a shelter/basement/bar/strip joint or perhaps even a house if ill repute), I urge you to remember what He did for you on the cross (while you were still a sinner and before reforming from all that). All believers are not only mere priests, but royal priests, and as such are authorized to conduct the Lord's Supper for all believers in the efficacy of Christ's death. Worship and praise Him for His death on our behalf. All it takes is some form of bread, and something made out of grapes that can be drunk (it doesn't have to be wine).

For those of you who feel inadequate in that regard, or feel not led by the Spirit to do that, consider tomorrow morning what Mark described in Chapter 4 (verses 35-41).

Nevertheless, I will be praying for all of you guys (the concept of doing so for so many millions boggles my mind's eye).

Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things. Those things, which ye have both learned, and received, and heard, and seen in me, do: and the God of peace shall be with you.
-Phi 4:6-9

I hadn't thought about any eyewall replacement cycles...it is kinda amazing that this thing has deepened this much today without one...

I really hope you are wrong about it being a strong Cat 4 or a Cat 5....but I dont think you are....
