You shouldn't say things like that. It'll give people a bad idea.

I am sure! I was in law enforcement at the time and couldn't leave.I was in the Civil Defense headquarters until 8:00 pm, then I went home to be with my wife and six month old son.
We knew hours before that the wind gauges were pegged out at 200 mph and it was coming straight into Bay St. Louis. Channel 13 in Biloxi was broadcasting a warning to all until their antenna blew down.
Our brick house was vibrating so much, I threw a mattress on the floor in the hall and pulled another over us; and we stayed there until the eye was over us. Then I went outside [and couldn't believe what I saw. Then the eye passed on by and the wind came back.
I had gone through 3 hurricanes in central Florida and thought I was a vet. That was B/S emotions!

from NHC CC:
Plane is in the storm at this time, has not sampled the NE quadrant yet, but NHC says when it does, it will likely reveal winds higher than the advisory, and will probably be increased at the next intermediate advisory. Dennis has slowed its rate of deepening from "an insane rate" (quote from the NHC there), to a somewhat slower rate. Storm surges will be in the range of 14-17 feet near the Mobile Bay to Pensacola Bay area.

Where are you in Atlanta? I hope not near Peachtree or Nancy creek! Nah. Close to Peavine Creek. Do you know where that is?

I don't know if it's been mentioned, and I don't know if it really matters in the final analysis, but Dennis is taking aim on some of the most profoundly Republican territory in the nation. The western part of the Florida panhandle, in particular, can legitimately claim credit for the fact that George Bush is now our President.
The three counties of Mississippi which border the Gulf (Hancock, Harrison, and Jackson); the two Alabama counties which border the Gulf (Mobile and Baldwin); and the five westernmost counties of Florida with Gulf frontage (Escambia, Santa Rosa, Okaloosa, Walton, and Bay) voted this way in 2004:
George Bush.......518,688 (69%)
John Kerry..........233,263 (31%)
Should we be more concerned for the welfare of conservatives? Well, yes. But I'll bet those folks will prepare for the event better, will whine a lot less, and recover more quickly than liberals would.

Where is Peavine Creek? I'm in Dallas, GA about five miles from downtown (if you can call it downtown).

Excuse me, but 140 KNOTS? Isn't that around 160 mph?
God help those on the coast if so.

Max Mayfield: pressure continuing to drop
So rare to have one this strong this time of year
Storm surge 14-17 ft.
Consider all the hazards: wind, surge, tornadoes .. loss of life. Not just a coastal event, could have hurricane winds in as far as Meridian, MS
