Just doing a quick survey...and for something different than the Katrina threads.
At what price must gas hit before you cut back on driving, switch to a better economy car, or start hoofing it to get to work?
I'm just curious.

For the record, I drive a small SUV, it probably gets about 22 miles to the gallon on the open road, but most of what I do is city driving.
Not many of you know my full story, but driving is one of the only ways that I can be idependent right now. I often will take the back roads of my town on an afternoon, just crusing around listening to talk radio.
But with gas prices hitting $3.00 a gallon, (and the picture on Drudge's front page show's gas at $4.03 for the premium stuff) I'm starting to wonder if I need to get me a different hobby.
Maybe I should go back to delivering pizzas, and get paid for my drive times.
hehehehehee.
Just curious to see how my fellow FReepers thing about this situation.

I am going to suck it up and pay whatever the cost, as public transit is not an option for me right now. I have limited my non-work driving, though.

I ride a bicycle, walk and drive as little as possible. My gas tank is on E and won't be getting filled up till I have to go on a mini-vacation.

Since I only fill my tank once a month, gas prices don't affect me as much as others in Freeperland. Nevertheless, I'll stop buying when I no longer drive, ie when I'm dead.

I may come up with something that can burn straight ethanol...or an 85% ethanol blend...

Just curious to see how my fellow FReepers thing about this situation. There is an old joke that goes, "if you have to ask how much it costs you can't afford it". That seems to apply to a persons' choice of transportation. If you ever are worried about the cost of gas then you should buy a more efficient type of transport. Gas would have to reach 5 bucks a gallon to equate to the oil shortage 1970 prices adjusted for inflation. I remember gasoline at 25 cents a gallon but life goes on.

Oddly, I will take measures to reduce NECESSARY driving, but my PLEASURE driving will not be reduced.
It's what I love.

I'm gonna drive wherever I want or need to go. I'm gonna rev the ole 8cyl engine as much as I please and if I need to make more money to support that, then hell's bells, I'm gonna do that too. :)

"At what price must gas hit before you cut back on driving, switch to a better economy car, or start hoofing it to get to work?"People who pay $8 a gallon for designer-label bottled water aren't going to stop putting gas into their cars, no matter what they tell you...
...Especially now that everyone "pays at the pump" for their gas with credit cards.
In the old days when people paid for gas with cash, price mattered.
No longer. Not really.

We just about got Iraq's ass kicked and Saudi Arabia is next, so I suspect the price should start dropping any day now.

switch to a better economy car Just bought my car least year (full size chevy) ... and I am not switching
or start hoofing it to get to work Takes me 45 minutes to drive to work ... hoofing it not an option, nor is a bike or motorcycle (Michigan winters tend to frown on those vehicles) and Detroit has no public transportation from the suburbs to what we laughingly refer to as "downtown".
