STEAMBOAT SPRINGS, Colo. - Police said a man accused of attacking a teenager after she collided with his daughter at a ski resort told authorities that he lost control.
Randell Berg, 52, of Littleton, punched the 16-year-old girl in the head and neck and yelled profanities after Sundays collision at Steamboat Ski Area, said police Capt. Joel Rae.
The teen was not seriously injured in the alleged attack, but told police she was sore afterward.
She was snowboarding near the base of the mountain when she ran over the girls skis, knocking both of them to the ground, Rae said.
Berg told police that after he made sure his daughter was OK, he just lost control when his daughter got hit, Rae said.
Berg was taken to Routt County Jail, where he was charged with third-degree assault and disorderly conduct. He was released Monday on $1,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court Feb. 14.

If a grown man punched my 16 year-old daughter, he'd be safer in jail than out on bond.

"She was snowboarding"
Enough said.
I would happily beat the crap out of somenone who recklessly endangered a loved one.

Setting aside what the father did, if somebody runs over my skis get ready for a beat-down. Running won't help I'll catch you.

I understand how a father could loose his control. I watched a large out of control male snowboarder slam into a 6 yo. girl. The father was livid.
Slopes must adhere to their "control" policies.

He made sure his child was ok and when he saw she was he attacked another child.
Sorry, no defense for this guy.

And frankly, wanting to beat up a teenaged girl for a ski slope collision is pretty lame. Guess you're a real tough guy.

I wish they'd ban snowboarding. I was skiing and one axehole came from behind me out of control and knocked me down. I was livid. I don't blame the father at all. In fact, I completely identify with his actions; if a snowboarder knocked my daughter down, I'd be livid too.

From the headline I thought it was Kerry.

Agreed. Has anyone on this thread ever been skiing? This stuff happens all the time. With skiers and snowboarders alike. The slopes are packed with people of varying skill levels. If it was an accident, which I'm sure it was, then why are you advocating a grown 52 year old man beating up on a 16 year old girl??? Very weird.

And the price of admission for this circus is an $81/day lift ticket!

My then wife collided with another skier in Colorado once and got skewered in the side by a broken ski pole. While everyone around her was running around like ants in a panic, she grabbed a hold of it, pulled it out with a couple of good tugs and continued down the slope to an aid station. She was a complete and total b*tch, but a tough b*tch.

What this guy did is, I hate to say it, but as the father of a small girl myself, I think he reacted emotionally and wrongly, but not unexpectedly. The boarders have become the punks of the slopes and this is the first year I avoided going to Colo for a weekend skiing trip since the early nineties.
I'm just tired of dealing with snowboarders. I'd love to know of a "no punk" slope somewhere.

Or maybe they were both at fault. Under alpine skiing rules-of-the-road, the above is impossible.
