Sound off! Why is Bill Clinton so popular? [Go for it!]
Edmonton Journal ^ | March 10, 2006 | --

Posted on 03/10/2006 11:42:32 AM PST by johnny7

Former U.S. president Bill Clinton charmed an Edmonton audience Thursday night with his charisma and magical personality. More than 7,000 paid up to $200 each to hear the 59-year-old two-term Democrat president speak about Canada-U.S. relations and our country’s continuing military role in Afghanistan.

But it wasn’t so much what he said but the way he said it - with confidence and sincerity. Those in the audience sat mesmerized by his words, feeling they were part of a private chat rather than listening a speech in a big arena. Despite a White House sex scandal that made him the first president to face impeachment proceedings since Richard Nixon, he left office more popular than when he entered. He is now the most sought-after celebrity speaker in the world, taking in a reported $150,000 for the one-hour speech.

Why do you think Clinton remains so popular?

Because he's a master bull$hit artist. Tell the people what they want to hear even if it's a lie.

Because he fills the role of celebrity, and is popular with people that value that. The two most precise polls to measure his popularity with the American voter, show he could only pull less than 50% acceptance. (1992, 1996)

Because he appeals to the worst in people. He makes them feel it's okay to do wrong and behave badly.

Yeah. If he can do all that and still be president, why, my sins must be A-OK...

Clinton absolves them of guilt.

That's the closest I could come to also. He's fine with you being shiftless, decadent and a general burden on society.

Why he raped that unfortunate woman in AK or chased poor Kathleen Willy around the WH trying to cop a few feels is beyond me. He's a babe magnet!

The thrill of the chase conquest?

And after all that has been made public do you think that it would make any difference to a large number of people?

The people of Arkansas and West Tennessee knew what Clinton was long before he was elected president and did not make one iota of difference.

Let's see...he got 41% of the vote in 92, and 49% in the second election....

When he campaigns for canidates, they lose....

I don't know, why is he so popular?

In all honesty:
-even the most unemployable folks I know had jobs in 1995-2000. Unemployment was VERY low. I know several people who NEVER had a job before or since.
Yes, we all know he was in charge at the right time, reaping the benefit of the end of the cold war and the Reagan tax cuts, but there is no way you are going to convince someone who had a job then and doesn't now.

I did like the fact that employers were hurting for employees. I would be happy with sub one percent unemployment and a fifteen percent yearly salary increase as the normal nature of things..... right up until I retire and am stuck on a fixed income.

Also, face it, President Bush is just not, to me anyway, a likable guy. He reminds me strongly of the spoiled rich kids in high school and college who got nice cars for their 16th birthdays and KNEW they would never have to really worry about finding a job or being unemployed. I mean I voted for him because he was/is much better than Gore or Kerry but as far as someone I'd want to go bowling/drinking or chasing women with Bubba wins hands down. I don't trust ANYONE who hasn't had hard times and/or a really crappy job such as picking prunes or cleaning toilets. And outside of my church I have never found a single person of my aquantence who really cared about the Lewinsky affair: "Gee, you mean alpha males attract and bed young females? and politicians lie? wos, no kidding" is the standard response form nearly every person I know who wasn't a churchgoing Christian.

Bill Clinton was not a bad president. But, he was the worst person to be president. Bill Clinton was a sexual predator. He used his powerful position(s) to abuse subordinates.

Commencing spleen venting:

"The rape took place while Bill was running for governor. Hillary came bursting into the room to talk to two people, one of whom I personally know."
She said, "You won't believe what this [expletive] did now. He tried to rape some b*itch."
It was the job of these two to squelch the story.

He is popular because after the health care fiasco he never, ever took a leadership role in anything of importance.

Real leaders generate controversy and conflict because they take principled stands on important issues and LEAD in directions that often appear dangerous and uncertain. Real leaders often succeed or fail spectacularly and so are subject to vilification or ardent praise. BJ never took a strong position on anything of real importance. He never lead in any meaningful way and certainly never in a direction that gave a hint of genuine peril (unless his own personal survival was at stake in which case he would take careful, calculated risks and then back off as soon as the threat to himself had eased or passed). He tried to never offend anyone and to be all things to all men. He could never succeed in this 100% but he could certainly succeed enough to satisfy a majority.

BJ is the glad-handing chairman of the frat's rush committee. Always hale and well-met with a slap on the back and a sincere look, quick with a joke, quick to express sympathy, quick with useless but swell-sounding advice (invariably couched in terms of conventional wisdom and trusted platitudes). Ever popular with all and sundry when he passes from the scene he will be largely forgotten because he made no lasting impression or important achievement in his wake.

Why he's so popular is a total mystery to me. I just returned from a week in a place I never expected to visit-Little Rock, Ark, the home of the Clinton Double-wide Library and Massage Parlor. I was forced to go see the place as the convention I attended held the opening reception there. I was amazed at the building, a $40 million dollar (all donated by idiots), modern structure. I found it stark, featureless and filled with audio and video-enhanced displays that spelled out all Billy Jeff had done, ostensibly, for the country .

Especially laughable were the displays that were supposed to celebrate all he had done to stop terrorism and the worst was the one about what was called, "the Un- Constitutional impeachment of the president." Also far removed from the truth were displays about how he rescued the economy, how Hillary Care should never have been defeated etc. Hitlary was painted as the epitome of grace, smarts and high couture--what a joke!

The reception was excellent, however, what with expensive h'ors d'oeuvres, a cash bar and a saxophone player. Music was another theme of the place with one large room dedicated to his many saxes and friends in the music industry.

Away from the library were two other museums we saw where Billy was celebrated in the city. I also found that it is not PC to say anything negative about the Clintons. I did get some dirty looks from the natives and the Conventioneers, most of whom are leftist RATs. It was a strange, unsettling experience and I dubbed the library as the Clinton Boxcar Load of Myths and Fables.

This is a very good answer.
Keep in mind that when Anita Hill finished testifying, polls (which I normally despise) showed only 24 percent of Americans believed her testimony.
After a year of revisionism, polls showed 75 percent believed her.

They're like zoo animals (pardon zoo animals) in that they can get away with unlawful and aberrant behavior yet show no remorse and act like celebrities who's words also mean nothing.

"Why do you think Clinton remains so popular?"

Good pickup lines and hosemonsters (women) brag a lot. So word gets around. That's all he does and there's nothing remarkable about it.

All men can do it if that's their goal. All we have to do is get into that mode and dump our other, more valuable, responsibilities.
