Houston firefighters are standing by for the emergency landing of a of a 50-passenger jet at Bush Intercontinental Airport, an airport spokesman said today.
The Continental Express Embraer 145 took off between 4 and 4:20 p.m., said Rich Fernandez, a spokesman for the Houston Airport System.
``It blew a tire on takeoff and is circling the airport now,'' Fernandez said. ``I do not know what airline this is.''
The Embraer 145 is known as a ``regional jet,'' Fernandez said.
Woohoo! Excellent landing in Texas!
From one video feed it looked like the flaps on the left side were damaged.
I not sure about the proper procedure in this case. Smaller planes have a bad habit of spinning and cartwheeling when landing with damaged tires on one side. The good thing is that pilots can and do train for nearly every possible problem with the use of simulators. However, flap damage in this case is not good, as they are needed for lift at slow landing speeds. I would still consider wheels up on a long runway. They should be OK, with skill, luck, and our prayers.
Thanks heavens.
Nicely done by the pilot. I want him at the helm when next I travel.
Hey Gunner.
Lord, This is my first live thread...I am going to have a few "ADULT BEVERAGES NOW". I did not know I would be the first to report this. Amazing, the air craft was flying over the house here.
I once had an Apple Martini.....and decided I'd better not try that again.
Did you hear Shemp's quote (Post 278)???
Whew.
The pilot's going to have about 79 beers bought for him tonight!!!
Sick Bastids
I couldn't believe he said that... I was just hoping the families weren't watching Fox News like I was.
They used the same routine and kept us on the tarmac...for some time.
No news coverage back then...but we all gave the crew a well-deserved round of applause after 2 hours of burning fuel...and tower fly bys.... Many passengers were crying and writing out wills on the magazines....
I hope that pilot got a raise or promotion too!
We don't know :~D
Great first live thread, and I hope you met a few more of us Houston area folks.
"Nicely done by the pilot. I want him at the helm..."
What's with the naval-speak. It's not a helm, it's a yoke.
I hate that guy.
He came back to tell us that all were O.K. and showed them coming off of the plane. Give the guy a break numerous times. Nobody on CNN or Fox hopes people die in fireballs.
Did that fool really say that? I thought you were joking.
These guys are real pros!
"BEAUTIFUL LANDING.... (CNN and FOX are deeply saddened)"
What kind of a sick mind could come up with that?
