AP Sets Up N.Korea Bureau
The Chosen Ilbo (South Korea Newspaper) ^ | 5/22/06

Posted on 06/12/2006 12:50:27 PM PDT by Recovering_Democrat

The TV arm of the Associated Press news agency, AP Television News, has opened a permanent bureau in North Korea. AP says it is the first Western news organization to be able to make daily dispatches from the reclusive country. Under an agreement with North Korean officials, the bureau will be operated by staff from APTN headquarters in the U.K. and staff of North Korea's national radio and television broadcasters. "Once again, the Associated Press opens a window with authoritative and impartial coverage from all parts of the world," AP CEO Tom Curley claimed.

APTN executive director Nigel Baker, who was at the opening, said the agreement means it will be “the only Western news organization with regular coverage" from the North. There are three other foreign news outlets stationed in North Korea: the People's Daily and Xinhua news agency of China and Russia’s ITAR-TASS.

I'm sure we'll get the real truth from the AP regarding the conditions in North Korea. Just like we got from CNN about Iraq.

Oh, wait...

Rules of operation in North Korea:

1) The State is always right.
2) If the State is wrong, see rule #1.

Glad to see AP held out until they could get their own telegraph lines to the south, carrier pigeons just weren't fast enough for the breaking news desk...

I guess they didn't question why the NK Government allowed this, huh?

The libnuts at the AP will be right at home.

My guess is, not many. The main thing they'd have to promise to do is just be themselves.

You're right about NK not having anything to worry about from AP.

But why do I think that the little wart in charge isn't going to leave that to trust...?

AP & NK---- I'm surprised that it took them this long to get together ..... After all, they have the same goals and idealogy; The same hatred for America.

While they are at it, they might as well move their headquarters there.

For a minute I though the new release said the APs authoritarian news coverage was in keeping with their host county.

OK-If the AP is opening there then there is no excuse--- the UN should start their move tomorrow.

Kofi, that famous NY nightlife sampler, can sample some of the best cusine NK has to offer. (Waiter will ask him if he wants his dog medium or well done and whether it should be pre or post walkies).

Just like we got from CNN about Iraq.

Your looking at this the wrong way. Like CNN was in Iraq, AP will be our BDA* eyes and ears in NK. But dont tell AP that. They would complain that they were being used by evil conservatives.

I can hardly wait to see all the propaganda about how well fed and happy the Korean population is.

Socialist reporters will hold the hands of little Korean girls as they watch the chubby civil servat children use skipping ropes on pristine school grounds.

PUKE!Propaganda!

Koreans are starving and if a Korean has a dog, its not safe to let it out into the yard unwatched!

LOL, we can't even get the truth out of them regarding what takes place in the U.S., or Iraq.
