US (Democrat) anger over Howard comments ("Al Qaeda wants Obama & Dems")
The Australian ^ | Feb. 12, 2007 | AAP

PRIME Minister John Howard has been described as bizarre and irrelevant by US Democrats after he launched an attack on Democratic presidential hopeful Barack Obama. Mr Howard said yesterday al-Qaeda would be praying for an Obama-led White House because Senator Obama has promised to withdraw US combat troops from Iraq by March 2008.

A string of Democrats have reacted angrily to Mr Howard's comments which have received widespread media coverage in the US.

Terry McAuliffe, a former chairman of the Democratic National Convention, criticised Mr Howard's strong links to US President George W. Bush.

"The prime minister has been a great friend of George Bush's, he has been with him lock-step from day one on this war in Iraq," Mr McAuliffe said.

"He and George Bush, they can go off and talk to each other, we don't care what he says."

Democrat senator Ron Wyden said it was hard to be polite about Mr Howard.

"The most charitable thing you can say about Mr Howard's comment is bizarre," Senator Wyden said.

That's a very good point. In Obama's first plunge into foreign politics, he managed to denigrate the contributions of one of our staunchest allies.

His inexperience really showed strongly today. Let's see if the White House, his fellow Congressmen, and the media give him the tongue-lashing he deserves.

This should be topic #1 in Tony Snow's next press conference.

I'm a big fan of John Howard and I like his comments. I was surprised to see a different point of view from Captain's Quarters:

Even Our Friends Should Butt Out Of Our Politics

Like you and me, Captain Ed also feels that Obama's reply shows a lack of seasoning -- it's not right for a U.S. politician to insult Australians, or to imply they haven't suffered enough in the war on terrorism.

Terry McAuliffe?!

McAuliffe is the only political animal that lies more than the former boy president.

I disagree with you only because what the USA does, regarding Iraq DOES affect Australia.

If Howard thinks that politicians like Obama, making "plans" to withdraw the troops at a date certain time helps spur our (Australia's as well as the USAs) enemies to wait us out...or up the ante..

Then I think Howard has every right..since Australia has a big stake in how Iraq turns out.

Besides...he has been very hard on radical Islam down there...and I am sure that he does NOT want the USA to make the same mistakes that Europe is...which would take us away from the war on terror.

Austrailia are our partners in Iraq. I think he has every right to criticize those who are attempting to undermine our troops. They have their troops in Iraq, also, so anything we do affects them. Obama and the rest of the traitor party need to learn to keep their damn mouths shut.

John Howard, I'm with you all the way. You're a good ally. Thank you.

That Captain's Quarters blog about this kefuffle has it wrong..when they remarked that it was someone from Obama's campaign that made disparaging remarks about Australia's contribution to the war.

It was Osama Obama HIMSELF that said that....

What a lightweight..and yet on 60 Minutes tonight, when asked if he has ANY doubts that he is qualified to be POTUS, he said, "NO".

Pretty cocky for someone that just stepped in it.

And, unfortunately the Democrats have been marching in lock step with the terrorists since day one of the war in Iraq.

Considering Kerry sent his own sister over to Australia to attempt to sabotage Howard's re-election? IMO, Howard can say whatever he wants about the Dems. Especially as it pertains to a WAR his country has a stake in seeing through to success, of which this country is leading. Or was...Right now Howard is perhaps the most "Churchillian" of current world leaders even if his country isn't recognized as having the same influence.

Far as this U.S. citizen is concerned, since santorum's loss, it's nice to have someone of political importance (aside from leiberman) lay it all out on the line and not give a damn that the Liberals will howl. I like him. Too bad we don't have someone as conservative and forthright likely to win in '08 here.

Yes, the truth does hurt! I commend Mr. Howard for telling the truth and giving support to the war on terror!

Which Republican candidate is going to be bold enough to speak this truth?

"PRIME Minister John Howard has been described as bizarre and irrelevant by US Democrats"

Give me the Aussies over the Democrats any day of the week. As far as dealing with actual threats is concerned, the Democrats are bizarre and irrelevant. Their success in regaining the two Houses of Congress must rest on their capacity for lying, and the willingness of most of the news media to go along with them.

Let the candidates within US make their own case for/against any Iraq policy.

They pretty much have, it all boils down to cut'n'run.

According to Obama, if you attended school overseas like he did, that's a good enough qualification for foreign policy experience. These Democrats go to odd extremes to explain away themselves.
