TALLAHASSEE, Florida (CNN) -- Former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani told CNN Wednesday he supports public funding for some abortions, a position he advocated as mayor and one that will likely put the GOP presidential candidate at odds with social conservatives in his party.
"Ultimately, it's a constitutional right, and therefore if it's a constitutional right, ultimately, even if you do it on a state by state basis, you have to make sure people are protected," Giuliani said in an interview with CNN's Dana Bash in Florida's capital city.
A video clip of the then-mayoral candidate issuing a similar declaration in 1989 in a speech to the "Women's Coalition" appeared recently on the Internet. "There must be public funding for abortions for poor women," Giuliani says in the speech that is posted on the video sharing site YouTube. "We cannot deny any woman the right to make her own decisions about abortion."
When asked directly Wednesday if he still supported the use of public funding for abortions, Giuliani said "Yes." "If it would deprive someone of a constitutional right," he explained....

but the war on terror probably still overrides domestic social concerns for the average GOP primary voter. In other words, those supporting RINO Rudy are single-issue voters given that he is a liberal on virtually every other issue?
A conservative candidate can't fight the war on terror? Primary voters won't prefer a conservative over a liberal that will fight the war on terror?
To: muleskinner
Republican primary voters aren't going to immerse themselves into all the legalities involved, all they're going to see that Rudy wants to use their taxpayer funds to pay for abortions. As soon as this hits home, it's all over for liberal Rudy.

Scalia is a strict Constitutionists that has voted to overturn Roe. Opposition to Roe is a measuring stick of strict Constitutionalist.
The only thing RINO Rudy had to offer social conservatives was the promise of a strict Constitutionalists. So, implying that he would nomination judges that would uphold Roe takes away any reason pro-lifers and social conservatives have to vote for him and that will cost him millions of votes and assure the GOP is a minority party for a decade if he somehow runs or reaches office.

Where in his statement today does he say he backs taxpayer funding?

Horse crap. Just because something is legal doesnt mean that the government has to pay for it. The right to bear arms is granted in the constitution. Doesnt mean the government should buy everyone a rifle. Not so fast. I can be bought. Gimme a Ma Deuce and 10,000 rounds of .50 BMG and I'll vote for anyone. /s

When asked directly Wednesday if he still supported the use of public funding for abortions, Giuliani said "Yes." Also watch the youtube video. Public funding = taxpayer funding, btw.

The gun-grabbing is where I’d say NO to anyone.
Notice that all gun grabbers have many of the same other fetishes, such as the need to fund abortion, and a need to control.
They’re all the same.

I took the liberty of adopting (a corrected) version of area51's tagline a few weeks ago.
Don't waste your time attempting to have any meaninful discussion with area51, he/she has no desire to discuss facts unfavorable to RINO Rudy, and much prefers to just cut-n-paste the same info over and over again, while pinging his/her Rudy-bot buddies.

I consider the RKBA to be a Pro-Life issue as well so it doesn't surprise me when someone who supports abortion is a gun grabber or vice versa.
When someone wants to take your means of self-defense away from you you have to ask yourself what it is they want to do to you? Nothing good comes to mind.

I do recall, but the poor slob was trying to be mayor of NYC, which I think clocks in between 80,000 and 100,000 abortions a year. In any event, despite his stand 14 years ago, he appears to want to honor it now.

The record of a politician is the only reliable way to judge them. His pro-abortion stance has been remarkably consistent; even now, he says he supports taxpayer-funded abortion for poor women.
But hey, I’m not the one trying to rationalize his support for abortion.
