Will FR embrace socialism to make way for Rudy Giuliani as a Republican presidential candidate?
vanity | April 21, 2007 | Jim Robinson

Posted on 04/21/2007 6:42:25 PM PDT by Jim Robinson

We've got some real challenges facing us. FR was established to fight against government corruption, overstepping, and abuse and to fight for a return to the limited constitutional government as envisioned and set forth by our founding fathers in the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution and other founding documents.

One of the biggest cases of government corruption, overstepping and abuse that I know of is its disgraceful headlong slide into a socialist hell. Our founders never intended for abortion to be the law of the land. And they never intended the Supreme Court to be a legislative body. They never intended God or religion to be written out of public life. They never intended government to be used to deny God's existence or for government to be used to force sexual perversions onto our society or into our children's education curriculum. They never intend for government to disarm the people. They never intended for government to set up sanctuary cities for illegals. They never intended government to “rule” over the people and or to take their earnings or private property or to deprive them of their constitutional rights to free speech, free religion, private property, due process, etc. They never intended government to seize the private property of private citizens through draconian asset forfeiture laws or laws allowing government to take private property from lawful owners to give to developers. Or to seize wealth and redistribute it to others. Or to provide government forced health insurance or government forced retirement systems.

All of the above are examples of ever expanding socialism and tyranny brought to us by liberals/liberalism.

FR fights against the liberals/Democrats in all of these areas and always will. Now if liberalism infiltrates into the Republican party and Republicans start promoting all this socialist garbage, do you think that I or FR will suddenly stop fighting against it? Do you think I'm going to bow down and accept abortionism, feminism, homosexualism, global warming, illegal alien lawbreakers, gun control, asset forfeiture, socialism, tyranny, totalitarianism, etc, etc, etc, just so some fancy New York liberal lawyer can become president from the Republican party?

Do you really expect me to do that?

From my vantage point both sides have taken their eyes off the ball. The conservative coalition that brought Republican majorities across this land had three basic legs, socons, securitycons and fiscalcons. The truth of the matter is that none of us, and I belong to all three groups, can put together winning majorities without all three groups having something to vote for.

I opposed Rudy from the gitgo and I think the willingness of certain fiscal and security conservatives to throw socons over the side was foolhardy. Likewise I think socons throwing fiscal conservatives and security conservatives over the side is also foolhardy.

None of the three groups should have the temerity to ask the others to vote for liberals. But that is indeed what happened with the Rudy supporters, Rudy is undoubtedly a social liberal. The bounceback has been the loss of many fine intellects who though not conservative on certain issues were certainly moderates rather than liberal.

One can only hope the split here is not a window into the next election cycle. I miss some of my old time friends and opponents who feel they have been left no choice but to leave. But FR isn't a commons and that tragedy is worse than this.

Hopefully a candidate emerges to coalesce around because the next President will be appointing as many as three SCOTUS justices and if the Dims grow a set and cancel funding for the war the umbrella defense will once again fail to keep the enemy out of the end zone.

Sorry you have such a low opinion of women that you think they need you to fight online battles for them.

I see that dirtboy, rbmillerjr, and dmw decided to 'fight this online battle' on your behalf. It hadn't occurred to me that this demonstrated their low opinion of you, but perhaps you know best.

Yes, I do agree that sad things are often necessary. It’s always been that way. In this particular case, of course I don’t agree that it was necessary. We’ve been all over this already, and I think you’ll agree that there’s no point in me rehashing it, unless of course my motivation wasn’t clear.

There has been a lot of talk that we have to play by Jim’s rules when we’re in Jim’s home, which is undeniable and is as it should be. But Freerepublic has been not just Jim’s home, but all our homes, in most cases for years, by Jim’s intent in my opinion. He built it for us, I think. I haven’t made up my mind how I view Freerepublic at this point in time, but I’m pretty sure I’ll never see it in quite the same way. I’m probably not alone in this. Time will tell.

In todays political environment, I think both social and fiscal conservatives remain committed to national defense and strong security minded in overwhelming numbers.

Rudy Giuliani's candidacy as evidenced by the support so many FReepers seem to have for him, HAS fractured the GOP. The old Reagan coalition of social and fiscal conservatives --- Reagan: "The New Republican Party" --- has been already begun to split.

That's why so many FReepers are holding their breath and waiting patiently to see if Fred Thompson enters the race. Rudy must be knocked out of the race NOW, while its still early. If not, the GOP will self destruct in the end.

But of course. Because conservatives of my pedigree will not vote for a liberal of any prefix. I'll write in my own candidate before I vote for Rudy.

As an alternative, let me suggest:

"Eternal Vigilance: the new face of Free Republic."

We've had ten days of officially sanctioned thuggery from a handful of posters whose only evident accomplishment is an ability to be relentlessly nasty on a bulletin board. There has been no suggestion that their endless stream of insults and threats might violate FR's remarkably malleable policy against personal attacks.

Jim, I hope you'll give some thought to what you've done here. It goes far beyond eliminating a few Giuliani spammers.

I think this will be my last post for a while.

There are several third way options, so we agree on that. Rudy is not an option. In the short term, I'd rather make every effort to hold Republicans together and save the GOP if at all possible, but that might be an effort in futility. Only time will tell.

And you have it exactly backwards here. NautiNurse initiated this personal attack against Eternal Vigilance. But you can't be bothered to get to the bottom of that before making this claim.

THAT was the real problem with a certain element on FR - misrepresentations, distortions, projection and out-and-out falsehoods. And you've joined them in doing such. So pardon me if I don't cry about your leaving us for awhile, if you're gonna make bald-faced lies like this one.

If you are so concerned about civility, perhaps you could read the exchange that Nauti Nurse started where she, out of the blue, started to attack Eternal Vigilance for what she said was a theft of bandwidth.

Or is it asking too much to get to the bottom of this particular dustup?

Bull - regarding this particular dustup over hotlinking, she picked the fight. See post 17,212 for the starting point and follow it. Realize two posts got yanked - the first where she posted a graphic saying EV was stealing, and another where EV caugh her with a copyrighted photo on her own website, and NN, rather than saying "yeah, I did wrong", changed the linked object TO THE EV ATTACK GRAPHIC.

And then NN admitted it wasn't the hotlinking, but the content of the hotlinking that she didn't like.
