This is what happens when (as a society) we tolerate teen pregnancy. High school day care centers, contraception-on-demand (not in this case) without parental consent, abortion without parental knowledge, not to mention a floundering local job market that offers bleak opportunities for its young people.

So they have nothing better to do with that low self-esteem, but to get knocked up. Yeah, that's a good solution…

Maybe we should lessen the negative stigma of prostitution, and assign each high school a couple hookers. That way the boys will leave the school girls alone. They could have the same benefits as the educators, and get a good retirement out of it.

Girls are biologically programmed to get pregnant at 14.

Last time I checked, humans were not biological machines which must act according to their hormonal impulses. We had cultural traditions that were plenty strong enough to over-ride biological urges. Over the past 40 years, those traditions have been trampled on and flushed down the cr@pper--on purpose--by our political enemies.

A bunch of unwed skank teenaged highschool baby-mamas are the result.

I think you and Mr. Jeeves are making the same point- you need cultural mores against teen, really unwed pregnancy (a big problem is that there is too much focus merely on teen pregnancy as if something magical happens on one's 20th birthday that makes unwed pregnancy ok) a sizeable amount of girls will seek out motherhood regardless of their age or marital status.

We need more than a few abstinence classes in school, however- having your health teacher tell you about abstinence for a couple of hours is no competition for seeing your mom living with her boyfriend and tabloids glamorizing unwed pregnancy among celebrities.

Was that not a good enough response? And in looking at the piece I wrote, I don’t think I once got serious about locking up teenaged boys. I thought that was the point of a forum. To discuss ideas and maybe come back with a different point of view?

You hit it on the nose.Somewhere around forty years ago the morals in this country go very coarse and lewd.It semed to be acceptable to see a girl and say,”I want to f**** that”,instead of commenting on how sweet,cultured or intelligent she was.And I am not talking about Left wing hedonists,pot smoking hippies or reckless ghetto blacks-I am talking about”nice”kids from upper middle class white families who,though not brought up to think like that,fell completely hook,line and sinker for the so called”free love”ethos of the time.
This generation is just way more upfront about their immorality and selfishness.We,the great Sixties Generation,were the ones who opened up Pandora’s Box.

IF you want to use man’s law as a deterrent, charge the girls and the boys with underage/illegal sex.

IF, However, you want a GREAT deterrent, use God’s law - (see what He says about unmarried sex) (but, most people aren’t Christian enough to follow God’s laws).

I think we also should dust off the 16mm film cans showing REAL results of VD that they used to show us in the service (at least during the early 60s)! Required viewing at assemblies in HS or Middle School too. WOAH!
