Yup, just do the speeches and whatever else right from the storm area....would make for great TV, dramatic viewing...and a very huge audience. McCain and his veep in shirtsleeves passing out relief supplies and making speeches for a few days! McCain, the veep, and Jindal of course :-)
They could have them on camera communicating with the crowd at the convention from the storm area...lots of cheering and sign waving for their heroic efforts.

This woman tried to make it look like President Bush came down to her factory and personally fired her. I'd fire her.

Impossible. You lose your stadium, your hotel rooms, your airline reservations, all your faclities. If you are the President of the US, you ask each & every company involved to delay everything a week due to a natural disaster.

I thought I read somewhere that Jindal had said he didn't want the VP nomination. He said it numerous times speaking to Neil Cavuto on FOX.

But then that will lend the opportunity for the Democrats to condemn them for taking a Disaster like this and making it into a Political photo op, at the expense of the poor.
The media will spin this to no end. And the Convention will be about as well covered as the Westminster Dog Show. It will be Hurricane Central, 24/7 and all the poor poor peeples who couldn’t even afford bottled water who had been kicked into the gutter by those evil Republicans. (Again)

Did everything shut down outside of the affected area after Hurricane Katrina? Or any of the other hurricanes that have hit the U.S over the years? Is the hotel and stadium supposed to bump everyone who has reservations the week after next?

The best thing for the party is to continue on with the convention in Minneapolis and have Gov. Jindal run an effective emergency response in constrast to the Nagin/Blanco Katrina fianco.

I remember a Republican Convention in which we were watching from home only to get hit with a bad storm. The power got knocked out for about 3-4 days.

If you are the President of the US, you ask each & every company involved to delay everything a week due to a natural disaster. And the companies respond, "Sorry. We're booked."
The convention is not a government function. The President cannot command the facilities be reserved for his use. The hotels and airlines and other providers are under no obligation to drop everything and cater to his request.
And if they did? If they cancelled all the hotel reservations and the airline reservations and the reservation of whoever had the arena lined up for the following week, then what? You've got thousands of pissed off, disgruntled people out there who had their plans trashed just so the GOP could change their convention at the last minute. Imagine how that would play on the MSM?
To: Bobalu
If the GOP has McCain/VP on camera from N.O. during the hurricane, the DEMS will eat it up as EXPLOITATION for political purposes. Tough position.

Why is it only a Fema disaster if it hits louisiana? Because "black victims" are the official mascot of the Democrat Party.

That would be the right call. No way the Republicans should be having a party in Minnesota while a hurricane strikes New Orleans. We’re talking politically fatal.

Even if nothing else changes, the convention will be reduced by thousands of delegates who will have priorities other than political theater.
Between those with jobs relative to any disaster, including National Guard and first responders from other states, and delegates from the gulf states, lots of folks will have other things to do.
Virtually no one from the current administration will want to be seen fiddling while New Orleans sinks.

Aren’t they saying that max strength for Gustav will probably be a 3, and that is when over open water.
