Federal investigators now involved in lawmaker graffiti case (MN)

Capitol Police in Washington D-C will coordinate the 6 political vandalism cases involving Minnesota lawmakers who had their homes spray-painted between Tuesday night and Wednesday morning.

A Minneapolis police spokesman confirmed today that local investigators will compile evidence and run lab tests, then send their results to Federal investigators, who routinely follow up on threats against U-S lawmakers.

Criminal charges could eventually be filed at both the local and federal levels.

Some time between 7pm Tuesday and 7am Wednesday, a vandal or vandals sprayed messages on the homes of Democrats Amy Klobuchar and Keith Ellison, and Republicans Norm Coleman, John Kline, Michele Bachman, and Jim Ramstad.

Those messages included 'Scum','Criminal', and 'Traitor'. Those responsible also left a cryptic reference to Psalm 2 on at least 3 of the homes, a passage that is now the subject of much discussion.

"There's where the curiosity is," says Bethel University Professor and Biblical and Theological Studies Chair Michael Holmes. "What was this person trying to accomplish?"

Holmes says scripture and words of the biblical prophets often turn up in turbulent times like these. Exactly what the tagger is trying to say, however, is up for interpretation.

"Somehow, he's lumping these folks, House, Senate, both parties, as somehow in rebellion," Holmes ventured. "Not doing the job, they need to resign and get out of the way, seems to be his primary message."

“Not doing the job, they need to resign and get out of the way, seems to be his primary message.”

Sounds like a Freeper. Except for the graffiti part.

From the story I read earlier, the graffiti painted on Norm Coleman’s house said “Resign, or else”.

That’s pretty unnerving. I wonder how they voted on the bailout?

I could never understand how back in the thirties all the folks were cheering on Dillinger, Bonnie and Clyde, etc. But I saw a show the other night where it said that the common folks, that lost all their money in the bank, saw it as payback. After the last few weeks I can understand the thinking now.

Well, in a few days they’ll have their chance to throw the bums out. And in spite of how good that may make them feel - I can’t imagine Al Franken being a better representative!

Dillinger, Pretty Boy Floyd, and Bonnie & Clyde also were great at PR.

They often drove past and through “Hoovervilles” and threw bundles of some of the money they had robbed out to the people who lived there.

This is why they had a sort of Robin Hood status back then.

Yeah I watched that myself. Dillinger made banks destroy mortgages.

Interesting about tossing money around and destroying the mortgages - I didn’t know that.

I did get a kick in the show about the one guy they took hostage saying something like “Yeah we drove around a bit, drank some, told some stories.”
