Former Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev welcomed Barack Obama's victory in the US presidential election on Wednesday, saying he would bring "perestroika" to the United States, ITAR-TASS news agency reported.
"I am very happy. Two or three years ago I said America needed perestroika, and this was greeted with cheers in the US," Mr Gorbachev was quoted as saying, using the term for his 1980s liberal reforms that helped end the Cold War.
"It is no accident that the whole world followed these elections, including in Russia, where they were followed like never before. This shows there is hope that the arrival of a new administration will bring changes," he added.
Mr Gorbachev, a winner of the Nobel Peace Prize, added that the election of the United States' first black president was a "lesson" for other countries and showed "a very strong side of America."
Perestroika - a Russian word that translates roughly as "rebuilding" - was the name given to the liberal reforms Gorbachev introduced in the 1980s as he opened up the markets of the former Soviet Union.

It's mass frickin' denial -- "It can't happen here."
Most on the right think 0bama will just have to govern from the center.
He won't -- he doesn't have to.
In fact, to get what he wants he must create chaos. You will be pointing fingers at him and playing partisan politics while the major powers are stripping America and your freedom to the bone.
They're already threatening broad use of executive orders.
I hope there are at least a few of you out there who see this coming and are ready to fight it.
Just open your eyes and ears and listen to what your leaders are saying.
This is our last chance.
They think you are stupid and mind-numbed. That you will do what you are told. That you will crumble when faced with "real threats". I hope this is not the case, for my children and our country's future.
It's easy to see if you would just consider the possibility that we are being setup for a monumental, "never thought it could happen here", paradigm shift, i.e., rewritten constitution, or a new global version, no 1st amendment, no 2nd amendment no Bill of Rights -- all of it gone or "added to", butchered through amendments, radically altered via 0bama's "positive liberties" (one-world government "on your behalf"), etc.
Once it shifts, you are done -- game over. Without bloodshed there will be no going back.
They will use some sort of Problem-Reaction-Solution mechanism. A huge international crisis to scare the crap out of you, make you believe there is no other way to go and bring about the paradigm shift.

We will need the military to dig in its heels and refuse to act on the destruction of our sovereignty and the constitution. Without military resistance to the "shift" then it is truly a done deal.
I can only hope something happens to reveal, in a big way, the agenda of the power mongers.

My fear is that measures taken over the years to strengthen FEMA and the like will be grossly abused should someone like Obama take office.
