I need some positive reasons why not to plan for a SHTF scenario.

Posted on 11/16/2008 3:15:11 PM PST by rfmad

I am seriously thinking of taking to steps to go to a survivalist approach planning to survuve total chaos and financial and institutional break down. Some one please help me see why this is not going to happen. Thanks

I think it's a perfectly reasonable concern.

Tops on the list would be plenty of ammunition and plenty of bottled water.

Beyond that, I would be thinking about how to teach myself to load my own ammunition [and how to cast my own lead], and how to purify my own water.

To their credit, the Mormons keep a list of things which they are required to have on hand:

It’s wise to prepare for the worst. In fact, it would be irresponsible not to, especially if you have a family.

Preparedness is a good thing. Even if the worst doesn’t happen you’ll be in good shape for garden-variety disasters such as earthquakes and pandemics. Just don’t buy anything with a short shelf life.

If I were you, I would put back $700 billion or so for a rainy day.

It doesn’t hurt to keep a few weeks’/months’ worth of frozen and canned foods, bottled water, and powdered milk, etc. on hand. I am starting to do this, getting extra when I shop. This would be good in the event of a disaster or severe inflation. I am a huge Glenn Beck fan, and he recommended this.

There’s one thing some of us can’t prepare for. Prescribed medications needed for survival. And that sucks!

I wish I had access to a rural area where I could earn a living. I have a feeling we’re going to need to grow our own food before too long.

You definitely need to be armed. If you have food and others don’t, you’ll need to hold them off for as long as you can. Is that crazy thinking? I don’t know.

Get ready!

There’s only one thing that I can see that will stop this, and hopes for that are slim and none. Birth Certificate

There... i said it... whatever chaos it brings, it cannot be any worse than what you have accurately predicted.

One should always plan for shtf. The degree to which one’s preparations fall outside normal daily function depend on the situation. Planning and prep are never a bad thing. By taking an objective look at your current situation, what would be needed for continued function (continuity of operations, or COOP), and the difference between the two can shed some light on one’s needs and requirements.

You should always be prepared for such contingencies. That's why we have a second amendment, a free market, and our liberty. We are supposed to be responsible for providng for and protecting ourtselves and own.

This is not a SHTF mode, this is a normal mode for responsible living.

It's just that large segments of our society has never been taught it, forgotten it, or does not want to be responsible for themselves.

A bunker, a couple of car batteries, episodes of Monty Python’s Flying Circus and several hundred cans of spam ought to tide you over the apocolypse. Spam spam spam...

LOL -

I’ve seen folks read all this news of gloom and doom and get so caught up in it all many times.

There is need to be concerned with the things going on, we need to apply pressure where pressure is needed and of course you should be prepared to fend for yourself but not to the point where rational thought goes on vacation.

Just remember, the sun will rise in the east tomorrow and you still have to get up and go to work.
