WASHINGTON, DC -- April 19, 2009 -- Retired navy captain and Apollo XIV astronaut Edgar Mitchell today called for the U. S. government to disclose to its citizens and other Earthlings what he asserts are the realities of long-standing extraterrestrial visitations and interactions with our planet.
Speaking this morning at "X-Conference 2009" in Gaithersburg, MD, a suburb of the nation's capital, Mitchell told several hundred attendees and a phalanx of video cameras that, with our planet confronting population pressures and critical questions of environmental and energy sustainability, the need for disclosure about extraterrestrial involvement with Earth is critical.
Mitchell contends that the dispersal of knowledge about what he believes to be the end of Earth's apparent quarantine from other civilizations, and advancement of planetary culture beyond its present fragmentation and incoherence, are desirable results of the widest public release of information about the extraterrestrial presence he believes is real. Mitchell, Bassett and other "ET disclosure" activists are banking on President Barack Obama's repeated assurances that government agencies withholding information from US citizens are "on notice," in the President's words, that an era of unnecessary secrecy is over.[snip]
Mitchell said he believes such changes are essential for Earth to make progress through problems confronting humanity's competing needs, religious imperatives and cultural fragmentation.
"We live in challenging, magnificent times," Mitchell said, emphasizing that, in his opinion, information that we are not alone in the universe -- and indeed, he said, that we here on Earth are having ongoing interactions with nonterrestrial beings -- may provide a key to consciousness changes he and his colleagues believe are necessary. If they registered to vote democrat, it just proves there is no known intelligent life “out there”.
All of these types that preach aliens, population control, nuclear doomsday have read books like “Communion” and all these abductions books. They think the aliens (which don’t exist by the way) are hear to help us, our big brothers as it were, what they fail to realize is they have made this ficticious beings thier god.
Many aviators believe because many have become witnesses.

One of the astronauts who circled the moon alone while waiting for the lunar lander to return came out from blackout excitedly saying “yes there IS a Santa Clause” for no apparent reason.
It was later revealed that “Santa Claus” was the agreed code word to use if he saw a UFO

Well, for myself, aliens are not the issue. It’s shadow governments, and secrecy. And where I know most Freepers object to governmental control, I would find it difficult to understand why those same people would stand by while a shadow government withholds information- no matter what the content. Disclose it.
I don’t believe in ET’s—but I’m certainly willing to hear,see and evaluate any evidence.

Reminds me of the O’Hare sighting of an unknown object a few years ago, where apparently pilots, who would be almost unimpeachable witnesses on any other aeronautics topic, were ridiculed.

Can’t prove a negative. Since there wouldn’t be any evidence of extra terrestials in any government documents the et nuts would still claim a coverup.
I might believe in UFO’s if they do exist we should try to acquire as much alien tech as we can get our grubby little hands on.
And in a nation that has currently uncounted millions of illegal aliens from Earth how hard might it be to hide here?Or do you also know where all the thousands of missing persons reported every year are living?or where their bodies have been discarded?

What more do we need? Some actual evidence is what we need. I’ve had two sightings myself. I have no evidence that the things I saw came from another planet other than unusual flight characteristics. That’s not good enough. I refer to my sightings as “unexplained.”
Also, IF aliens have visited and/or are visiting our planet, they don’t wish to be outed. If they wished to contact us, no one could stop them. So, perhaps there is an agreement between the aliens and world governments to keep the visits secret. Perhaps world governments have no choice in the matter, due to...agreement, or...threat? While I feel this scenario is highly unlikely, I mention it as possible, not probable.
I have come to the following conclusion after years of study of UFOs:
Unidentifed objects are sometimes observed flying about our planet. Some can be explained and some cannot. We have no idea what some of these objects are or where they come from, and neither do world governments. Since governments don’t know what they are dealing with, they stay silent rather than admit ignorance.
