After emerging out of nowhere over the summer as a seemingly potent and growing political force, the tea party movement has become embroiled in internal feuding over philosophy, strategy and money and is at risk of losing its momentum.
The grass-roots activists driving the movement have become increasingly divided on such core questions as whether to focus their efforts on shaping policy debates or elections, work on a local, regional, state or national level or closely align themselves with the Republican Party, POLITICO found in interviews with tea party organizers in Washington and across the country.
Many of these differences date to the movements beginnings last winter in an outpouring of anger about the huge increases in government spending enacted by President Barack Obama and the Democratic Congress. But they were overshadowed by the initial explosion of activism that culminated during the congressional town hall meetings in August.

they hope...politico notices astroturf.....
The last tea party I went to in Austin was terrible! You would not BELIEVE the number of people beating the crap out of each other with “Don’t Tread On Me” signs! I saw rampant racism, sexism, species-ism, and every other ism in the book. It was a nightmare! Worse than mud wrestling! Then afterwards we burned the capitol building TO THE GROUND!
See, I can be a “journalist” too! I have a VIVID imagination.
Whistful thinking by polico dolts...
This is partly wishful thinking claptrap and partly an inability to understand what is going on.
How bout a Tar and Feathers Party. I propose one in Wash. DC. Think of the fun and how good Pelosi would look decked out in Tar and Feathers.
I predicted this months ago. Same thing happened to the Free Republic Network who were not given the authority and tools it needed to grow into an effective nationwide juggernaut.
I've seen some debates here about whether to support Republicans or single out small government conservatives, but as a practical matter it doesn't matter because almost all the small government conservatives are Republicans.
you betcha..... get some tar (natural tar) from the Santa Barbara Channel and butter her up like Chumash boat-builder.... Maybe seagull feathers too boot!
Oh boy. Don't they WISH! LOL.
Well I’ll play Devil’s Advocate but I’m not that passionate about the role.
Here in Dellyware there’ve been groups springing up, conservative groups. Our local yokel tea party was organized by a group called SCORE....meaning some play on sussex county, a real RED county and heaven on earth where I live...and organization...yada, yada.
Then came the “9-11 tea party” group cause the SCORE folks invited a stupid Democrat that had once been a Republican who got booted out for drinking, driving and lying so he turned Dem. Well the SCORE people had him come speak at a ralley and that was the end of them.
The 9-11 group organized the DC march so...
...hey, that’s how it goes. Those guys at Politico, fine wing-tipped fairy nice fellas every one, are like just stating the obvious.
Don’t kid yourself, when people start the process of getting organized like this, shifts and turns and tweaks are normal.
It’ll all settle down but come on guys...LAFF at these boobs.
Like hey, in the course of human events, such as jockeying for position...hey, hey...NOW THIS IS SOMETHING NEW!
Condor.
Tea Party movement would be just fine as long as they stay free and clear of takeover by special interest groups.
Definite words to the wise.
There is a very real ideological battle between those that want to move closer to the republican leadership and those that want to maintain independance.
I thought we were astro turf.
Then afterwards we burned the capitol building TO THE GROUND!
So ya’ll were the ones that set fire to Perry’s house........ LOL
Not true we have a few local boys and girls in our Tea Party group who either are Democrats or recently were!
In fact one of them is VERY VERY conservative!~ No joke:
I THINK THE TEA PARTY MOEVENT DOESN”T NEED:
1) A national leader (or group),
2) To become partisan and taken over by the Republican Party,
I say this a member of the Board of Directors on our (registered as a non-profit) local Tea Party group: www.wethepeopleindiana.org (Columbus, IN and surrounding area)!~
