Libertarian Announcing His Candidacy Against Bobby Scott (D, VA-3)
http://www.meetup.com/The-Peninsula-Libertarian-Party/messages/boards/thread/8227792 ^ | Peninsula Libertarian Party

Fellow Citizens of the 3rd Congressional District of Virginia,

My name is James Quigley and I am officially announcing my campaign for Congress as a Libertarian against the incumbent, Bobby Scott (Democrat), of the 3rd District of Virginia. Over the course of the last few years our country has become less of a Free Market Democratic Republic and more akin to a Corporatist Oligarchy while the wealth of the poor and middle classes have been transferred to the few and powerful. Although Mr. Scott has spoken publicly against such interests, his actions and legislation has done little to stop this transfer of wealth to the "too big to fails", and in many ways has instead accelerated their growth in power. Virginians need someone willing to put a stop to the merger of government and the "too big to fails", and I will take up that mantle.

Further inquiries can be made at JamesQuigley4Congress@gmail.com

The only Republican candidate I know of is Coby Dillard, who has a webpage called the Dillard Doctrine. He helped with the McDonnell campaign and also worked with the Tea Party movement. He has created an exploratory group but has not officially moved beyond that at this time. The 3rd District Chairman for the Republicans is a gentleman named Mr. Mike Wade, and he and I had a long talk last Saturday. You should be able to find either Coby Dillard or Mike Wade on the internet, and I encourage you to do so and make your opinion known as I have done likewise.

“more akin to a Corporatist Oligarchy while the wealth of the poor and middle classes have been transferred to the few and powerful”

Hogwash - most of the $4 trillion a year the Government spends is on health, welfare and education bureaucracies - ie the welfare state. Transfers go TO the poor, not from them. And thanks to Bush’s tax cuts, half of Americans dont even pay income tax!

“I warned them that I was moving forward. They retorted that I would split the vote from their as of yet unselected candidate.”

Then it makes more sense for you to run as a Republican then and beat whoever else is in the primary.

“I let them know if they found a small, limited government government candidate I would happily walk away.”

Why dont YOU be that candidate? (I mean you are as LP candidate but will get more votes as GOP one.) Nobody can stop you from filing!

“I’m stubborn when it comes to my principles”

Your principles involve never ever getting into any risk of actually getting elected?
That’s the only principle you give up.

The GOP is the millions of voters who vote for Republicans.
Everything you say about those millions of voters is incorrect.

If the local GOP doesn’t want to split off the votes, they can simply nominate Mr. Quigley instead of some big-government RINO.

nor demonstrated what is wrong with the Republican candidate

Well, let's see... he doesn't cast a reflection in a mirror, so either he's a vampire or he doesn't exist.

Duh.

Well, there’s your problem — half of the items on that list are demands for Big Government.

As of last night there was no Republican candidate.

Obviously you know the difference between Libertarian and libertarian so we won't go there.

I don't agree with open borders. I wouldn't open my house to anyone that wanted to live there, nor do I think that the world should be borderless.

Drugs--I can't see how a true Conservative can support the War on Drugs and what it does to the country. That is not saying that I endorse recreational drug use or drug abuse, but those decisions should be left to the individual, not government. Leave it to the government and someday they'll declare too much nitrogen or carbon dioxide to be toxic pollutants or they'll declare too much oxygen unhealthy to humans and try to regulate it. The Iraqi War should have been a Declaration of War instead of a Resolution of Force and Bush paid the price for his political mistake. Actually we all paid the price for his political mistake. Abortion is ultimately up to the woman. Make all the laws you want, it is still up to the woman. I find it an abomination but also know that A) it is legal; B) I can't prevent any woman at all from getting one. Ultimately that is between her and God and there is nothing anyone can do about that. Pornography and prostitution....same same....activities between consenting adults don't need the government in them. Not all vices are sins and not all sins are vices. Do you really care what your neighbor reads, looks at, watches, or with whom your neighbor has sex? And what business is it of yours what your neighbor does with other consenting adults behind closed doors? IMO, conservatives embrace a live and let live attitude until you get to the religious conservatives who want government to enforce their morality on others and this isn't much different than what the left does. Part of having freedom is the opportunity to do things without others' approval or consent. Requiring consent from the government is the opposite of freedom.

Notice the word, “nor.” It suggests that only one of two conditions may be applicable.

Well, since the list is where there exists disagreement with libertarians, it’s almost sort of tautological that they are over the scope of government.

You extended a courtesy, and they dissed you. Now go on and win!

"We need more libertarians."

So do the Republicans, on behalf of all who still cherish our beloved Republic.

Let's hope the Republicans figure it out in time. LOL

I applaud you and your effort. Some around this place will not see principles in what you’re doing. That’s only because their only principle is voting anyone with an “R” after their name.

Reminds me of a couple I knew back in the 1980s..hardcore democrats. Didn’t matter who it was, they simply voted straight party ticket every election. Some around here are of that mentality. They vote party, not principles.

Do you have a place for anyone to donate?

"You will have many freepers upset with you for splitting the vote even before the GOP fields a candidate."

You obviously saw that one coming a mile away -- and so did I.

Good Luck to you, Deuce!
