I am sorry why is Rove considered such a “Political Genius”?

Look at his record without the hype and spin manufactured by the media about him

Under his leadership the GOP went from a majority in Congress to an absolute minority as well as losing the White House.

He won 2 Presidential elections, by the skin of his teeth, running a well know son of a former President who also happened to be a successful Texas Governor.

The GOP victories in 2002 had a lot more to do with the mood of the country 1 year after the 09-11 attacks then it did with anything Rove did.

He was completely, disastrously wrong in his tactics for both 2006 and 2008.

The only genuine genius one sees in Rove’s record is a genius for marketing his name.

At any cost? Well, lying about one's education, tax problems, and 'witchcraft' dabbling are all things we have mocked Democrats for excusing in their candidates for as long as I can remember.

So, what is this fight really about? Seems to me O'Donnell has an uphill battle, and while I certainly hope she wins, nearly everyone here is forgetting the reasons we deplore politicians like Biden, Geithner, and San Fran Nan. O'Donnell herself seems guilty of all of their previous misdeeds. So who really has the 'at any cost' attitude in this particular race?

Hint: it is not Karl Rove.

Maybe it's because some of us are just mad at ourselves for being conned into believing that Rove was a Conservative.

Maybe it's because we see a National political pundit calling the Tea Party stupid.

Or, maybe it's because we see someone using Democrat tactics (personal attacks) in smearing a candidate.

In any event, Rove has ruined his reputation with all but the Liberal establishment.

GOOD MORNING!
I’ll be back to read everyone’s wonderful comments.

I am only watching FNS to see Joe Miller, but *ugh* Rove is on first -— I planned to watch him anyway -— more about him later.

Blessed Sunday everybody!

Exactly, especially since the Old Media is so boringly predictable. We already know who they will go after and who will get serviced under the table.

Good morning! I doubt there is anyone who was a bigger defender of this man over the last 8 years than me. So here I am to offer my mea culpa and tell you what I think.

My first disconnect with Rove was when I read his book. Much of the events that were so important to all of us over the last 10 years, beginning with the primaries and debates of 2000, followed by the hard-fought Florida recount with people demonstrating in protest to Gore all over the country (but especially DC), and then so many things throughout the Bush administration, were barely mentioned. Most of the book is a blur of names of politicians and elected officials, numbers of people who could be persuaded, state chairmen, blah. blah. blah. I am surprised that dang whiteboard wasn’t included as a special offer.

When I read Laura Bush’s book, Rove hardly got mentioned.

I got to thinking. Here is my theory.

Rove was a low-level operative in the RNC during Dad Bush’s term. He got sort of adopted by Lee Atwater and met George Bush at that time. When Dad Bush lost, Rove went back to Texas and did some political consulting on the local level.

Bush 43 remembered him from having met him in DC. He signed him up and Rove began working for the gubernatorial campaign.

Bush 43 is not a conceited person. We have had 8 years seeing that he gives credit to everyone else. I think he attributed his win in Texas to Rove’s advice and numbers calculations, so he used him in his presidential campaign.

Bush never considered that his win was due to his own personality, hard work, and essential nice-guy charisma.
He assumed it was because of Rove. So he kept Rove on in the White House and listened to him, because to Bush (not thinking he could have won otherwise) Rove WAS a genius.

How much bigger would Bush’s victories have been if someone else had run the campaigns?

How much influence did Rove’s advice have on policy and personnel decisions? For example, was Scott McClellan kept on as press secretary because Rove pushed for keeping him there?

How much did Rove’s advice sway certain domestic policy issues?

And now the $64 million dollar question: Was Castle’s campaign the first one “genius” Karl Rove advised without having a charismatic candidate like W? If so, we can see that he was a complete flop, and this explains his continued attacks on O’Donnell and the voters who elected her.

AND: Since Karl Rove was the one who persuaded Bush not to answer the charges that he lied about Iraq (lightning bolts shooting from my eyeballs when I read that), how much of the loss of Bush’s reputation was due to this decision?

I do not like finding out someone I defended for so long has neither appreciated the grass roots support he was given nor has the integrity to support a GOP candidate he is not getting a paycheck from. I have been very, very angry since Tuesday evening.

At 8 minutes after the hour on Meet the Press, Powell discussing immigration with Gregory, stated that ‘they’ are all over his house every time he needs anything to be done, and he is sure that the same thing occurs in the Gregory household.

What?????? Powell assumes that workers with accents are not legal, and furthermore, he doesn’t care.

That didn’t work very well for Linda Chavez back in 2001. I wonder if any mention of Powell’s comment will ever be made?

"He was completely, disastrously wrong in his tactics for both 2006 and 2008."

What did Rove have to do w/ the 2008 election? He did not work for McCain and he was not working for President Bush. He does not work for the RNC. He is just another mouthpiece who has been 'in the business' since college. Frankly, we give him too much power.

Rove stated that FNC pays him to give his opinion. Did they know he was working FOR Castle?

Might as well be Chris Matthews at this point

Good post.

One thing that fascinates me in speaking of the attributed Rove successes is the lack of mention of Karen Hughes. It almost seems that after she left, Bush's troubles began.

I know I am repeating myself, but Christine O'Donnell was the Republican nominee for the Senate in 2008. She ran against Joe Biden. Biden won with 64.69% [257,539 votes] of the vote against 35.31% [140,595 votes] for O'Donnell.

McCain only did slightly better in 2008 with 36.93% of the vote. And O'Donnell was running against Biden, the sitting senator for 28 years.

Why isn't anyone asking Rove where was he in 2008 on this so-called flawed candidate, O'Donnell? The GOP establishment in Delaware seemed to believe she was qualified. I have yet to hear any of these airhead pundits on TV mention that she was the 2008 GOP candidate for senator in Delaware.

And she beat a former two time governor of Delaware and nine term Congressman to get the 2010 nomination. Sounds pretty impressive to me. It has an eerie similarity to someone who beat an incumbent governor in the primary and then won against a former Dem governor in the general election. The state: Alaska. The woman: Sarah Palin.

Hint Repeating out of context, misleading and slanderous attacks about O'Donnell as “Fact” is exactly the winning at any cost tactics Karl Rove is enraging in.

Shame on you for helping him do it.

Your side lost this one. Get over it.

All you are doing by continuing to engage in this slimming of the party endorsed candidate is setting up a lose-lose position for yourself

If O'Donnell loses, all we here are going to remember is you Rovebots continued with your slanderous misleading attacks after you candidate lost the primary.

We are going to point at YOU people as the reason she lost.

If she wins, we are going to remember that you did your best to sabotage this vital race.

This is a lose-lose position for you. You would be wise to seriously rethink your choice of tactics here.
