Obama to propose $300 billion jobs package: report

President Barack Obama, facing waning confidence among Americans in his economic stewardship, plans to lay out a $300 billion job-creation package on Thursday, CNN reported, citing Democratic sources.

The proposed new spending, to be announced by Obama in a nationally televised speech to Congress, would be offset by budget cuts, the report said, signaling that the Democratic president hopes to mollify the concerns of Republican fiscal hawks resistant to his jobs ideas.

There was no immediate comment from the White House.

Obama's aides have refused to go public with the estimated cost of Obama's package or provide many specifics in advance, except to say that the proposals will have a "quick and positive" impact on boosting jobs at a time of stubbornly high U.S. unemployment.

Confidence in Obama's management of the economy has been hit by months of bad economic news and several polls on Tuesday showed fresh declines in his job approval ratings.

Obama hopes to start reversing this trend in an address to a joint session of Congress on Thursday, in which he will try to convince voters that he has a better economic recovery plan than his Republican opponents.

"We need to do things that will have a direct impact in the short-term to grow the economy and create jobs and the president will put forward proposals that will do just that," White House spokesman Jay Carney said.

Obama fought Republicans all summer to lift the U.S. debt ceiling in a bitter debate that saw rating agency Standard & Poor's cut the U.S. AAA credit rating, and he must now get lawmakers to back additional spending that many oppose.

Bush left Obama an umeployment rate of under 6%, iirc.

On TARP, Bush called in Obama because he had won and let Obama make the call since it was going to be handed down to him.

Obama has PURPOSELY made our country WORSE.....Cloward/Piven in action.....on SPEED!

Obama would be better off just sending a check to each and every citizen in America for $10,000.

Those that are smart can live on that a long time, and many fools will learn the consequences of money in quantity as well.

Ah...recall yesterday he is going to announce this stuff in phases. We won’t get the whole plan Thursday night. I’m sure we’ll see a trillion or more by the time he is done.

People best be burning up the phone lines to Congress ASAP.

No deals with Obama. Obama is weak, do not empower him.

I ran against John Olver in massachusetts last year. The stimulus money poured in here and he touted "all the money" he brought back to Massachusetts. It was nothing more than a re election slush fund, it looks as if some of the republicans may want a piece of that pie though.

Obama is hoping for opposition from the Republicans to run against. The best position for the Republicans is to embrace the package IF it’s paid for for with cuts in the same year as the expenditures. The democrats will eat themselves up fighting the cuts if the Republicans can hold their position.

Chances of that jobs plan making out of the House: zero.

Here's the rub, Mr. President: we don't need more spending bills. What we need is a major streamlining of the size and scope of government and the biggest overhaul in national taxation since the passage of the 16th Amendment to make taxation more business-friendly in general overall.

Having an enemy this inept must bring a tear to Boehner's eye. ;-)

He is not inept. He and his evil cohorts have done irreparable harm to our Republic. We may never recover from the damage this Marxist PIG has done.

Done you honestly believe that the next Congress (even if Republican) will truly rip Obamacare out by the root?

Does anyone believe that the near 200,000 Federal parasites hired in support of Obamacare, etc. will be terminated?

The left has a relentless hold on our educational institutions and the media. The will continue to brainwash the youth.

He has pushed the marker so far left that it will take a herculean effort to reverse. The way that D.C. works, I am not that optimistic.

If they had taken the money we’ve spent on ‘stimulus’ so far, and used it as prize money in a newly created national lottery, they would have had a bigger impact and generated more federal revenue than anything they’ve done with the money to date. Not that I’m advocating this, but it makes as much sense as anything else they’ve done.

I believe each individual in America (not just citizens or adults) should be given a printing press, $100 engraved plates and an unlimited supply of paper. Further, they should be provided free electricity to run the same. If nobama would adopt my plan, everything would be just hunky-dory...wouldn’t it?????????

$300 billion job-creation package

$300 billion of spending that won't do a damn bit of good.

Maxine Waters on NBC MTP Sunday reflecting progressives said she wanted at least a $1T proposal from Obama that was primarily government construction/’inferstructure’ spending , and Obama proposes only $300B which is unlikely to do anything.

If these libs wanted ‘inferstructure’ spending they should have put that in the stimulus bill instead of all the handouts to voters, which they claimed over and over is the most effective ‘stimulus’.
