Iran must chose between a bomb or survival: Israel
Breitbart ^ | 12/12/2011 | AFP

A senior Israeli cabinet minister on Monday said Iran must be forced to face an existential question over its nuclear drive: choose between getting an atomic bomb, or survival.

"We believe that in order to stop the Iranian military nuclear project, the regime in Tehran should face a dilemma -- whether to have a bomb or to survive," Strategic Affairs Minister Moshe Yaalon told reporters in Jerusalem.

Yaalon said however it was for the international community, rather than Israel, to apply what he called an "achievable" policy.

"We prefer that the international community led by the United States will bring about this dilemma in order to convince the regime to give up its military nuclear programme," he said, stressing the need for political isolation and economic sanctions aimed at the banking and oil sectors.

Israel and much of the international community fear that Iran's nuclear programme masks a drive for a weapons capability.

Tehran denies any such ambition and says the programme is for peaceful civilian energy and medical purposes only.

"Our policy is very clear -- by one way or another, the military nuclear project in Iran should be stopped," Yaalon said, indicating it "might be 12 months, might be 24 months" until Iran was able to reach a military nuclear capability.

And that’s my dilemma. What exactly CAN Israel do? Warfare does not appear to be a viable option. Occasional ‘mysterious explosions’ are good, but need some more drastic follow-up.

I think that Saudi Arabia might have a dog in the fight, not a loud one, but they face the threat of Iranian bombers on their oil fields as a retaliation against the west

They also face the threat of internal unrest in reaction to anything they do. They are also the House of Saud, a collection of inbred, back-stabbing liars. They are also a military joke.

"Without the help of either the United States or the UK, who do have carriers and naval aviators, it is not even a possibility."

Israel has nukes and the ability to deliver.

See Larry Heineman, Starship Trooper, forget which chapter, for the inherent limitations of nuclear warfare.

You could be correct. Iran's proxy, Syria, is massing tanks opposite the Jordanian border. This is an easy target for Syria to make good on its threat to set the Middle East on fire, should anyone try to interfere with Syria's internal strife. Syria has a mutual defense pact with Iran.

US troops from Al Anbar are now stationed in Jordan opposite the Syrian border.

Iran is holding a full scale naval exercise aimed at practicing the blocking the Strait of Hormuz.

The pieces are in place.

National emergency in the US to be declared Oct 2012 - aka October Surprise - as Iran sinks shipping in the Strait and Syria’s tank armies cross the Jordanian border.

US Presidential election postponed for the duration ... of WW III

Just a thought.

Probably not too happy with Obama trying to water down the House/Senate sanctions against Iran’s central bank. Not sure what the timeframe is, but I think the only thing that will stop an Israeli attack is US/EU sanctions against Iran’s energy sector and its central bank.

I also think it is no coincidence that things keep mysteriously blowing up in Iran. Israel is sending the message - “act, or we will”

Israel has the nuclear capability to convert into radioactive glass the earth beneath every Muslim population center in the Middle East.
Iran's mad mullahs, with their insane 12th Imam cult, are not deterred by this deterrent and some actually see the possible holocaust as a prophesied precondition that will expedite the return of their currently well-dwelling Shia "savior."
A single nuke could cripple Israel and a few more would destroy her—this puts the Jews in another trap but THIS time they will not go down without taking ALL of their enemies with them.
Iran with a single deliverable nuclear device in the 21st Century is as dangerous to the world as the thousands of deliverable nuclear devices held by the USSR in the 20th Century.
It is times like this when having an unfunny communist joke in the White House is a clear, present and horrid danger to the national security of both the United States and her allies.

———Well now, that leaves just Israel...——

You forgot the Gulf States.

The fact we don’t know about their anti Iran actions doesn’t mean they are not real. Their policy is to be silent

They have to know that during a nuclear exchange with Iran, Israel, in her death throes, will not discriminate in her retaliation annihilation of ALL the Jew haters in the region.

Improper comparison. One includes a condition for the other’s existence, while the other doesn’t.

You miss my point, which is about the level of “resolve” among many countries to do much more than has been done in terms of shaky “sanctions” to stop Iran’s nuclear program.

Would any similar coalition exist to take massive military actions against Iran to destroy their nuclear program? I doubt that any country beyond the Israel and the USA will even contemplate such action, and the current US admin. would not actually do it.

So regardless of what was done vs. Saddam’s regime in 1991 and 2003 there is no relevant “international community” willing to prevent Iran from getting nuclear warheads onto ballistic missiles. It is up to Israel alone to determine what they should do about this ‘existential’ threat. That is my point.

Could someone please just turn Iran into a giant paved parking lot?

The more that idiot Mahkmud Imanutjob runs his mouth the more insane he sounds.

The U.S. Military has the unlimited power to destroy every single one of their nuclear facilities in three days. But that would only happen if Obama would pay attention to what is happening and protect Israel...but he seems to be more interested in playing golf, flying around trying to get himself reelected, and wasting our taxpayer money on vacations...

Yep, much like all the moderate koranimals throughout the world do while donating zakat to their jihadist brethren.
