John Bolton: Let’s face it, Romney’s the conservative who can beat Obama

Et tu, ‘Stache?

With America’s future at stake in November, I decided to support Mitt Romney for three reasons: his Reaganaut philosophy, executive experience and general-election campaign strengths…

Mr. Obama’s manifold failings underscore the final issue: electability. Competitors and politicos are already endlessly analyzing this question, so I’ll make only three brief points.

First, there is an infinitesimally small chance that Mr. Romney will self-destruct in September or October. “No-drama Obama,” meet your match. Second, Mr. Romney has the overwhelming lead in endorsements from Republican senators and representatives—the most aware, self-interested community, bar none, regarding our nominee’s electability. No propensity there to grandiosity or suicide. Third, Mr. Romney shares one of Reagan’s most important and attractive characteristics: being critical without being angry or scornful.

The late Bill Buckley bequeathed us the right test: Pick the most conservative candidate capable of winning. That is clearly Mitt Romney.

“He COULD have save the US in 2008, but refused to run for president’

I wish I could remember. Bolton said something when he was pretending a run, that just FLOORED me and I crossed him off my list. It was a deal breaker. Maybe someone here remembers what it was.

Romney doesn’t have wide appeal. He’d lose in a landslide because he is unlikeable, phony, and privileged.
*****
A Republican John Kerry?

He’s aloof.
Plus,he strapped his family dog to the roof of the car!

Romney can't get more than 25% of republican voters.

Actually, he'll be pretty solid with the GOP establishment, it's principled conservatives and Libertarians where he'll lose votes.

So I guess you’ll just let the liberals keep winning. Good luck with that.

You are trying to use a Liberal with an "R" next to his name to beat a Liberal with a "D" next to his name. Did it work with McCain against Obama?

Insanity has been defined as doing the same thing over and over while expecting differant results.

Good Luck with that.

If you are talking about the General Electiom, principled Republicans will for whoever is the nominee because they love this country more than they love this Party. If for no other reason than Supreme Court nominees.

You mean, many of the same people who thought that SOPA and PIPA were the best thing since sliced bread?

You mean, members of one of the least-respected congresses in the history of polling?

I hope I’m wrong. It would be great if Newt could pull it off. We’ll see. But the word has come down to me now that we’re not allowed to discuss politics on this forum anymore. It’s a shame, because the quality of discussion used to be very high.

If Romney is our only chance of beating the Commie Party, we deserve to lose. If he's certain to win, he doesn't need my vote.

I don't expect a "perfect" candidate with whom I agree on every issue. All I want is an acceptable candidate.

Don't get me wrong. Should Newt win, I fully expect that I will disagree with some of his decisions. I know that, shoud Mitt win, I would be disagree with most (if not all) of his decisions.

By the way, don't bother saying the presidency isn't as important as Senate/Congress. Too many of our "small 'r'" Senators/Congresscritters lean to the left.

There are lots of things that might happen. I’m trying not to get banned, so I’ll stop commenting.
