My son loves it when I print character pages for him to cut out and play with, and then we were in trouble when he discovered cube crafts.

I can only imagine how much kids are going to love the 3-D printer for toys!

Serious question: why is Design News “FR-hostile”? Are you talking about copyright issues, or ideology?

This is the principle (selective laser hardening of epoxy-like material) that I first used over 25 years ago in SLA machines from 3D Systems, but the use of audio to directly drive the mirrors and the drip system instead of a z-axis servo to raise the bed are simply brilliant! It’s obviously got some limitations but great potential as well, and is clearly one of the most innovative approaches in a field that is saturated with “me too” designs.

Copyright issues. As far as I know, purely copyright issues. But one can raise copyright issues without being nasty, if one so desires.

My understanding is that their lawyer started the process at the brass knuckles and baseball bat stage, rather than the terse memo stage.

But that’s just my understanding.

Yes! And drive the mirrors with your stereo sound card? Wow!

And unbelievably cheap!

Especially since it isn't for sale yet. Kickstarter can be another word for vaporware.

Sure, they could create their own action figures and stuff, but there is a hurdle to that. The kids would need to learn how to use 3d modeling software to design what they want to print.

If you’ve got a smart kid, this could be a great way to motivate them to learn a pretty bankable job skill though :)

Michelangelo could have prototyped the heck out of David before carving the final result in stone. Or perhaps he would have been satisfied with a resin version.
