WASHINGTON Security surrounding the inauguration of Donald J. Trump is proving to be the most challenging in recent history, according to senior officials involved in its planning, largely because of the same forces of political rancor that shaped the race for the presidency.
On top of the daunting threats to any inaugural ceremony, the three dozen agencies responsible for security at the Jan. 20 festivities are preparing for the possibility of large numbers of protesters flooding the capital, along with what may be nearly a million supporters of Mr. Trump.
The agencies are worried about the possibility of confrontations between groups of Americans still deeply divided over the election and at a moment when millions of people around the world will be turning their attention to Washington. At the very least, officials said, protests would put additional pressure on the regions already-stretched security apparatus.
To paraphrase Tolstoy: Each inauguration is risky, but each is risky in its own way, said Michael Chertoff, who was secretary of homeland security under President George W. Bush and oversaw the department for President Obamas first inauguration, in 2009.

Water cannons
I was hoping Halberds and real cannons
Not difficult at all. It’s area they can control. Pope had great security when he came.
Just do the inauguration in a hotel ballroom Mar Lago Florida. Televise it but just screw the protesters.
Trump: Don’t do anything risky — there’s a lot of people out there who would like to see you dead.
They aren’t “protesters”.
Trump hasn’t done anything yet for them to protest.
Call them what they are.......miserable, worthless assholes.
I’m thinking Vulcan machine guns, but hey, I’m pretty soft hearted toward protesters.
How many of these security services are loyal to Obama and would hold back and let chaos reign?
What exactly are these “protestors” protesting?
Flame throwers..weenie roast.
Well, they’ll likely burn American flags and that could start a fire so I think we need water sprinklers on constantly at each venue. Should be fine in January.
God Bless PE Trump and keep him safe.
Great idea!
I agree, but only at the last minute, let them think Trumps in DC.
I’d spray molasses on the sidewalks and dump a few millions ants loose. or cockroaches.

So, Jeh Johnson is responsible for security at Trump’s inauguration?
Protesters = The Media.
There is a local Lakota unit that could probably make good use of some “Bambi” buckets.
