Interior secretary nominee Ryan Zinke served his country honorably as a Navy SEAL, but in affirming that he would refuse to loosen the federal governments chokehold on Americas land, he did the U.S. a great disservice.
Reasonable people can disagree about how much territory the government should own. As an avid outdoorsman, Im sympathetic to the conservation ideal. Zinke should know, however, that federal land ownership is often at war with that ideal. There is no reasonable excuse for the federal bureaucracy to control a whopping half of the American West, nearly 30 percent of the nation, and over 60 percent of the territory of some states. Most of this federal land is perfectly ordinary prairie, desert, scrubland, and so forth not wilderness areas or national parks.

Article IV, Clause 2 doesn’t agree with you.
The federal government owns 1.6% of Ohio, most of it the Wayne National Forest.
Why not sell it back to the states? Congress can do that by a simple majority vote.
The first job of these nominees is to get confirmed - and for that, I could less what they say to achieve that goal.
After that, I’ll start to worry...but not too much yet, since he does ANSWER TO TRUMP!

Congress has the ability to change that with a simple majority vote. All those people leasing grazing rights? Sell them the land outright. All that wilderness and desert? Sell it to the states. Easy peasy.
