Complete Headline: A floral flop! Caroline Kennedy models a VERY unflattering dress on the Met Gala red carpet - just hours after being hailed by Vogue as one of the 'best dressed of all time'

Caroline Kennedy is known for her classic sense of style and fashionable know-how, so it came as quite a shock to see the diplomat take to the red carpet at this year's Met Gala in a highly unflattering - and rather bizarre - dress that quite closely resembled an antique lampshade.

The 59-year-old, a close friend of Met Gala chair Anna Wintour, arrived at the star-studded event in the bizarre layered gown, which featured three different floral patterns, each printed on their own poofy layer of fabric.

Caroline's bulky dress, which totally swamped her figure, fell at mid-calf height and left her arms completely concealed, an element which simply added to the peculiarity of the overall look.

She deserves some deference for the tragic circumstances of her life regardless of whether she lives in luxury.

I agree with you with this one caveat: Then that deference is due most people. I know plenty of people who have had multiple tragedies in their lives, but they're not in the public eye and people don't speak about them in reverential tones. This whole "tragedy of the Kennedys" thing is nonsense. People who speak of it always cast a too-wide net--every single bad thing that happens to every single Kennedy cousin or great uncle is "another Kennedy tragedy" that somehow befalls them all.

If you cast that kind of net in most people's families, you've got many tragedies. Has Caroline suffered more than some? Yes. Has Caroline suffered less than some? Yes. If we can't criticize her, we'd best not criticize most people. At least most people over the age of 50. It takes a while for the tragedies to mount up.

Caroline got it cheap—it was supposed to be
Hillary’s Inauguration outfit.

Is that disaster from Michelle’s designer? Pitiful. She is not anywhere close to Melania.

Just curious....

How many of you know she is SUPPOSED to dress in an outrageous outfit for this event?

In the proper context, it is actually a pretty good attempt.

Reading comprehension—or even just reading—will open your world.

We have all had sadness and tragedy in our lives. Some of us have been fortunate that our male family members weren’t alcoholic, drug abusers and risk takers. Many of the Kennedy tragedies could have been avoided.

That was EXACTLY what she was thinking as she dressed for a “Costume Gala.”

I never thought I'd ever type these words, but in Caroline Kenney's defense ... the dress code for the Met Gala is "bizarre".

Here are four styles from the best dressed at the gala list:

This one was a runner-up:

First word that came to mind: Hideous!

As in Hide-it-from-us.

I wouldn’t even have any of those floral groups as a sofa covering.

The poor woman defines Social X-ray, so it’s nice to see her taking up some space.

What is worn at the Met Gala often seems to be art, designed by artists, rather than by clothing designers.

I wonder if she ever sat down that evening.
