Trump pulls off a stone-cold stunner (delicious piece!)

President Trump for once united Washington on Wednesday — in shock.

Republicans and Democrats alike were left scratching their heads after the president did a deal with Senate Minority Leader Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.) and House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) over the express wishes of the most senior members of his own party. Trump signed up to terms proposed by the Democrats on government funding, which would soon have run out, and the nation’s debt ceiling, which would soon have been hit.

Crucially, another funding measure and another hike in the debt ceiling will be required before the end of the year.

That’s a big problem for GOP leaders including Speaker Paul Ryan (Wis.) and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (Ky.), who wanted a longer-term deal, kicking the next likely debt-ceiling increase beyond the midterm elections in November 2018.

Why did Trump do it?

People in his orbit say that the president was demonstrating to GOP leaders that they do not have the whip hand — and that, if they repeatedly fail to move his agenda, the commander in chief is willing to look elsewhere.

“I think it’s a warning shot,” said Barry Bennett, who was a senior adviser to Trump’s 2016 presidential campaign. “If the Republicans can’t come together as a majority to do something, the president knows where to get more votes.”

Beyond the ranks of Trump loyalists, however, the dominant reaction was one of perplexity. “I find it very difficult to understand,” said Doug Heye, a former communications director for the Republican National Committee. “Clearly a long-term Republican majority and the long-term health of the Republican Party are not priorities for Donald Trump.”

Nothing says regular order like the ridiculous and politically convenient 18 month debt ceiling increase that Ryan proposed.

How many CRs can this country withstand?

We haven't had a real budget since 2005. Why can't Trump simply ask Congress for a stand-alone Harvey bill and then move to a calendar fiscal year budget (Jan-Dec)?

3 months from now we are going to be in the same boat. Dems will call Trump Hitler again.

“’ll bet this poor schlep didn’t think Trump had a prayer of being elected either.

The GOPe is still lost in space, circling Uranus look for Klingons.”

I think that’s funny. LOL!

I prefer neither. A stand-alone bill to deal with the Harvey devastation, and an actual budget that cut spending for calendar/fiscal year 2018.

“I have always thought so, that DJT is much much more a businessman than an ideologue.”

Trump is an ideologue; he is stands for free markets, US sovereignty, and less government. The problem we have is the GOPe and Dems are essentially a uniparty for big government. The GOPe rynos leans towards the state capitalist (fascist) model and the Dems are communists. Either way, you get big government control. Trump is forcing the two “tyranny factions” to compete for Trump’s support.

If the rinos keep this up, Trump will take some road trips to key congressional and senate primary races and support the rino challenger.

The Rinos are jazzed about this deal. For them it’s a win win, they get what they want and can act like indignant conservatives.

Bingo.

“... the Republican National Committee.” That was all I needed to read. I was once an active Republican. Then I became illusioned about them and left now I hate the bastards as much as I hate Democrats and would NEVER vote for a candidate on a Republican line. In New York we still have Conservative Party that any half way decent Republican running on.

I noted one establishment guy saying President Trump was not concerned with the long term health of the Republican Party. B.S. I say. Paul Ryan and RINO’S ruined it already.

The GOP wasn’t going to give Trump separate bills either.

I much prefer a short term bill, as it does provide an opportunity
to work in Wall Funding, etc.
Notice I said an opportunity.
Not a certainty.
With an 18 month spending bill, there was certainty
that Wall Funding would never be addressed.

You may end up being right about the future.
But that future is not here yet.

Let’s look at it for what it is.
A short term 3 month spending bill.
That will have to be addressed in 3 months.
So the opportunity to address wall funding
will be there in 3 months.
It would not be with an 18 month spending bill.
Will it happen? Only time will tell.

I am no fan of Trump or having him work with Democrats but this was a rather brilliant move. The rinos will either start working with Trump or be primaried.

There are other ways to primary RINOs.

"Me either with Republicans like these.

Talk about a bucket-full of phlegm, add Jane Fonda, Ho Chi Min, Mao, and any raghead and you've got my nominations for range-target images.

>>How does that play back home with Republican base and conservatives? <<

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

There is no “Republican” base anymore, of any consequence.

Trump has reunited middle America with the Evangelicals.

This is POWERFUL and unshakable.

From now on, the BASE BELONGS to TRUMP (and his legitimate MAGA/America-First successors).

This movement will continue to grow!!

Guess what.
President Trump isn't supposed to worry about the Republican GOP.
President Trump is supposed to worry about the Constitution and the American people.

Seems to me he is doing what needs to be done to get the job done.

The R Party was/is/remains DEAD. They are the opposition party to America same as Democrats.

TRUMP revived it only long enough to borrow their rubber ticket to run on.

He won on ISSUES, not The R DONAR DRIVEN PARTY, and that’s how he got those blue state electors.

The voters are issue voters now.

He never had your support, anyway, not in any way, shape or form.

NeverTrumpers prefer paralysis over rolling out MAGA. He’s sealing 2020 for himself and booting the R donar party, thinning it out, in 2018.

These Republican goons were wanting to stall for a loss of their majority, in order for Democrats to win and start impeachment. We’ll see how that works out. You’ll be really happy if the Dems take over.

You are assuming that Trump will only be working with them from here on out. I don’t believe he will.

Instead he has to choose wisely in showing the RINOs that he has options and they are not the only game in town.

This agreement is a stroke of genius — only 3 month budget extention as opposed to 18 and funding for Harvey. Trump gains far more leverage while not giving up his agenda.

Smart very smart.

The rinos will either start working with Trump or be primaried.

That's it...These underachieving Rinos will have to face their constituents at home, and explain why they are voting against the Republican President and then try to explain why they should be re-elected...
