San Francisco removes boulders meant to deter homeless campers because they were 'not big enough'

The city of San Francisco on Monday removed about two dozen small boulders from a residential side street after a group of neighbors had them installed last week in an effort to deter homeless people from camping out on along the sidewalk amid the city's ongoing crisis.

San Francisco’s Public Works removed the rocks set up along Clinton Park in the city's Mission Dolores neighborhood. Residents last week said they pooled their funds to keep drug users from having a space to shoot up as they camp out overnight.

The department’s director, Mohammed Nuru, told the San Francisco Examiner that the boulders installed by the residents “were not big enough” and began posing a safety concern as they were being pushed into the street. He said the city would work with residents to come up with a more permanent solution that “could involve larger boulders or a landscape plan.”

The bolders can probably come back, but they will need to be bolted into place, which will add to the costs. The professionally lazy homeless seemed energetic enough to roll those rocks out into the street so they could sit back down on the sidewalk and go back to sleep.

The rocks should have been fixed into place anyway.
If a rock rolled into a busy street, and somebody crashed their car into one, the nearest business would have some ‘splainin’ to do. It does look as though the city is almost ready to accept this solution after a little more tweaking.
Some streets in San Fran are on a steep slant. I don’t know if that’s the case in this particular area.

they need boulders that are flat on the bottom which would impede efforts to roll them into the street.

they could take artistic inspiration from the statue of quetzalcoatl in san jose’s cesar chavez park.

:)

They should try fixing the government—better than rocks.

I agree, the basic idea needed a little bit of refinement. But the problem I see...they will end up hiring some rock-expert ($50 an hour) for their advice. Then the solution period will take 15 months to form a plan, with only boulders to be imported in from Canada aboard 40-ft trailers, and place into position by rock handlers making $35 an hour.

But the best is yet to come. Around the year 2036, some team will report that 144,000 boulders now exist in SF, and will hype an anti-boulder agenda, with eventual agreement to ship the boulders back to Canada.

Use shotguns, instead.

But the local government is successful in making the shoot up spot vape free!

Sprinklers. Being wet in SF at night can be dangerous.

I would suggest throwing rocks at city officials.

Perhaps city councilman can be lashed together and stacked on the sidewalk like cords of wood.

The only solution for The People's Dump Of Kommiefornia is ............ get rid of the people. Liberals are the problem. They're insane and corrupt and are the bane of civilization. San Fran used to be a beautiful city and one of my favorite places to visit. Then the liberals came. Ditto kalifornia. Orygone. Et al

“Use shotguns, instead.”

Fire trucks rolling down the street at 3 AM using a fire hose to sweep the sidewalks clean of both tents and bums would be very effective. A couple of nights having your tent and belongings swept away form you and getting cold and wet would induce relocation.

The world of the leftists gets more bizarre everyday in their quest to help crazy people ruin things for the normal people.

Instead of using flatbeds to bring boulders in, just load these "homeless" people on the flatbeds while they are "sleeping" and move them OUT to their new "home" along the roads that go through the desert.

They should have put the boulders on top of the homeless.

What’s astonishing is that San Francisco people are apparently oblivious to their mind-boggling absurdity.

As a kid I enjoyed watching the "Three Stooges" - silly, funny, stupid even.

For all it's faults, I have to say thank you to San Francisco for bringing back that level of comedy and entertainment to my life as an adult. No, not sarcasm. Bravo San Fran, bravo...

Water sprinklers that go off for 10 min every hour are the sure-fire bum repellant.

Cheap, easy, well understood technology that works.
