Assuming that the explanations coming from the Chinese government have no credibility, the true origins of COVID-19 are not yet known. This has encouraged a great deal of online idle speculation, including conspiracy theories ranging in terms of Chinese deception from low to high: (1) tainted "wet market" bat meat; (2) tainted "wet market" bat meat originating from the Wuhan Institute of Virology; (3) a laboratory accident, (4) an intentionally concealed laboratory accident; (5) a bioterror attack by a rogue individual; and (6) intentional bioterror attack by a belligerent regime.

Security implications are:

- The world’s supply chain begins fleeing China at breakneck speed

- Correspondingly resources available to the ChiCom military will plummet

In the long run a good thing for security.

...China and a lot of other bad actors have the capability of unleashing a pandemic of this nature upon the earth, and it is a threat the USA is clearly unprepared for. This is an existential threat that cannot be dealt with by increasing the number of aircraft carriers or fighter jets.

Democrats and the deep state get rich off China... maybe that's part of the problem. Our enemies pay more to our thugs than we do.

Supply chains fleeing to other 3rd world countries is not an option it all needs to come back home to the USA. In a word tariff.

Much of it will come back to the USA.

Some of it will go to countries like India as a reward for becoming a bulwark against China.

Art of the Deal

Supply chains spread out (hopefully to 'friends' rather than enemies) gives us the best of both worlds: control with home manufacturing of strategic goods and cheaper prices on ordinary commercial stuff.

We produce our own antibiotics and military supplies and we buy blenders and knife sets from Germany and Vietnam etc.

China? They can find new fools to steal intellectual property from... it's time to disengage from that hellhole.

speaking of security implications, the companies making hydroxychloroquine in India are U.S. companies that are not being allowed to export the products that they own from India, and relying on personal relationships is simply not good enough in the long run for the United States to be a secure nation.

We thus need a new superpower initiative in which the United States isn’t just the biggest energy producer in the world, and the biggest food producer and exporter in the world, but we also MUST become the biggest pharmaceutical manufacturer in the world (including full vertical integration of precursor supply), and thereby transform ourselves into the largest exporter of pharmaceuticals in the world as well.

It’s not good enough to just be self-sufficient in food and energy production and a world exporter of surpluses of those essential products, but the same HAS to be true with pharmaceuticals too: the United States of America MUST become the nation that all the other nations turn to for their pharmaceuticals, instead of us remaining the nation that turns to others for our medications.

Energy and food self-sufficiency are not sufficient to maintain national security as long as we remain a beggar nation when it comes to relying on other nations to supply our healthcare system.

True national security stands on four legs: military power, energy self-sufficiency, food self-sufficiency, and healthcare self-sufficiency.
