The Chauvin - Floyd Affair
Houston Courant ^ | May 31, 2020 | Michael Tremoglie

—snip

According to a study of Excited Delirium ( EXD) conducted by Drs. Takeuchi and Henderson of the USC Keck School of Medicine and Terry Ahern of UCSD Medical School, which was published in the Western Journal of Emergency Medicine, EXD is “ ...characterized by agitation, aggression, acute distress and sudden death, often in the pre-hospital care setting. It is typically associated with the use of drugs that alter dopamine processing, hyperthermia, and, most notably, sometimes with death of the affected person in the custody of law enforcement. Subjects typically die from cardiopulmonary arrest, although the cause is debated. Unfortunately, an adequate treatment plan has yet to be established, in part due to the fact that most patients die before hospital arrival. (Emphasis not in the original)

—snip

Therefore, Officer Chauvin was not committing an act of murder but implementing a restraining technique. Indeed, he may have been trying to prevent Floyd from hurting himself.

George died by his own actions and there wss nothing the officers could have done to prevent it. Most people seem to have bought into various bad cop scenarios other than the simple fact that George died of a heart attack while in police custody due to engaging criminal actions while high on drugs.

I have nothing but sympathy for the four officers abandoned by those who should have backed them up instead of throwing them to the mob for lynching.

“Floyd and Chauvin have a history at the nightclub they worked as bouncers.”

I’ve probably watched too many crime shows on I.D. But what if Chauvin’s soon-to-be-divorcing-him wife ALSO knew Floyd? Or, what if Chauvin BELEIVED she knew Floyd — perhaps a little too well? Jealousy is a powerful motivator in many crimes.

Yup. Can’t recall where I read it, but there was buzz out of Minneapolis early on that the nightclub the two worked at was a front for money laundering and counterfeiting. When the club closed, Floyd and Chauvin were laid off. Chauvin still had his police job, but Floyd was poor and desperate and tried to pass a counterfeit bill. Chauvin heard about it on his radio and got there quick, maybe worried that Floyd might spill the beans on the whole operation. And they had a little chat about that.

Anyway, that’s the story. Certainly not out of the realm of possibility. Might be some interesting revelations if and when this gets to trial.

What many overlook is that police are also required in their training & oath to render assistance when a suspect is in obvious distress, & can be charged for failing to do so.

I know, I know. This requirement to loosen restraint & render aid ASAP just opens another can of worms.
Any misjudgement favoring mercy could prove fatal for cops or bystanders.

A suspect could easily feign distress, then attack cops or escape.

That the cops are gonna f*** up is almost a given. The only question is, which kind of f*** up will they choose today?

If that can be shown he can be justifiably convicted for actual premeditated murder

I know they work at the same place And while the manager was reluctant to say they knew each other I would think a bouncer and outdoor security guard had contact at some points when patrons were tossed in the club and handed over to the police working security to handle

I don’t know why it took three people but the guy in Dallas died with only one officer on his back. It’s a sketchy restraint when it’s applied for 8 to 15 minutes. What’s to decide? put him in the squad car.

Is there ever a situation where they just turn them loose?

The democrat controlled media delberate miss portraying Floyd as an innocent black who was being forceably restrained because he was black. He was arrested for passing a counterfeit $20 dollar bill .When actually he was resisting arrest and was a threat if not secured by not mentioning his size or reporting that Floyd was removed from a squad car because he was acting up under the influence of drugs and also later was discovered to have COVID 19. Which suggests his physical condition may have led to his death which the media turned into a murder change and a charge of serious abuse by police because of police efforts that were tried to get him who under control Check out

The results of politically induced miss reporting used earlier during and after the post Zimmmerman trial. Led to black gangs attacking non blacks found innocently traversing black neighborhoods and to a score of murders or life changing injuries and later attacks of theft and vandalism on local businesses as well as attacks and murders of police officers during that period

Since when did ‘motivation’ (intent, or lack of) become unimportant? It is one of the most important factors in this or any homicide charge.

It doesn’t address why Mr. Chauvin continued his knee to neck restraint for several minutes after Mr. Floyd became non responsive.

And that is the problem.

It was on YT. Continuous if sometimes obstructed. Things didn’t go downhill Chauvin and his partner arrived. Not sure why he wasn’t simply loaded and taken away prior.

Not really. In Minnesota second degree murder can be intentional or unintentional. In third degree murder intent doesn't even enter into the equation. It is the act that they are being charged for, not the reason behind it. I don't know what Chauvin thought of black people and I don't care. I don't think he killed Floyd because he was black; I think he would have killed a white person under the same circumstances. I believe Chauvin killed Floyd because he didn't think enough about him as a human being to care whether he lived or died. Chauvin could have stepped on a bug and not showed any more concern about that than he did while kneeling on Floyd's neck.

There was no reason for Floyd to be face down on the pavement let alone with a knee to his neck. He was already restrained and not a threat. At most, ankle shakles and a multiman lift into a paddy is all it would've taken to avoid this. The least the officer(s) could've done is get off him let alone start resuscitation when he was unresponsive.

This is coming from someone who empathizes with the risks officer face everyday. I'm curious to hear Chavin's reasoning here.

Chauvin murdered Floyd in broad daylight, in front of multiple witnesses, which being filmed.

He also knew him personally.

Freepers who defend Chauvin are part of the problem.

Most policemen are commendable but some are just jerks with a power superiority complex regardless of the race or crime of perps...and some are jerks with bias. Have we heard what Chauvin has to say for himself?

I guess you missed the qualification.. ‘or lack of’..

Not sure how you arrive at your ideas painting Chauvin as essentially a heartless sociopath. Doesn’t seem to be near enough evidence to back that. Usually sociopaths are found out long before they are middle-aged.

It’s entirely possible that this was just one big F-Up. In fact that is what is most likely. The real crime here was not recognizing the man was in physical distress and getting him medical care in a timely manner. Even that might be mistaken as it could have been the ambulance just took too long getting there.

Expect all these minutiae to be gone over and over in the coming months.
