Former Australian chess representative John Adams has hammered a Sydney radio station for asking if chess is racist because white always moves first.
Adams revealed on Tuesday he’d received a call from a producer at ABC Sydney asking if he’d contribute to a segment on racism in chess that will hit the airwaves on Wednesday.
“They called me up and asked whether I was the John Adams involved in chess,” Adams told The Daily Telegraph.

In the classic Mad magazine "Spy vs. Spy" comic strip, I think that the White Spy won more often than his nemesis. Was the Antonio Prohias a racist?
Come to think of it, I don't think that any characters in Don Martin's comics were black either. Maybe the Mad staff was racist. Freaking morons.
This reminds me of Chris Rock’s SNL skit “Dark Side” where host Nat X, caricaturing black militants, complained about the cue ball and 8 ball in pool being racist.

Your “Spy vs Spy” reference reminded me of the “black guy always dies first” phenomenon in movies. I was watching a couple of Lifetime movies with my wife this week. One was “Psycho Nurse” or something and the psycho’s first victim was a black doctor. In the other one, the wife of a serial adulterer decides to get even with his mistresses, and the first one she killed was black. Now, most of those movies are formulaic and full of cliches, but they might want to think about avoiding that one.
I notice they’ve not gone after the great white shark, since it usually kills white people.
Checkers must really have them flummoxed.
In some chess lines, black wins more often. In the King’s Gambit Accepted, one database had white winning 7% of the games, black 29%, and 64% draws. But I suspect that many of those games are computer vs computer.
When you play chess the opponent holds a white pawn and black pawn in his hand. You do not know which is which. The adversary selects which hand. If the black man is the opponent and selects the hand holding the white pawn and moves first does this make the black man a racist?
This stupidity must stop.
As long as stupid white people keep going along with it, why should they stop?
If all the pieces were the same color, the game would be nearly impossible to play. The game is standardized to facilitate the exchange of commentary. And no, the standard is not an ethnic slur.
