In a lengthy report, USA TODAY interviewed 10 players, two former coaches and two parents about the program. They also obtained two years worth of exit interviews.
An article published on Aug. 5 by USA TODAY Sports details an alleged culture of abuse and a "toxic environment" in the Texas Tech women's basketball program under Coach Marlene Stollings. In the article, allegations included, but were not limited to:

Makes me wonder if the head coach had ever read “The Junction Boys”, the story of Bear Bryant’s abusive training camps at Texas A&M.
I watch it for the jiggle factor.
lol
she had a second job ripping up carpets
“Not all female B-Ball players are lesbians. Ive heard of instances where some players were harassed into leaving because they were straight.”
I have a married, straight, lady friend who can play golf just well enough to compete at the pro level. She has won state amateur tournaments that some pros enter. The pro who teaches her told her the lesbian players would make her life miserable and run her out of the league and not to bother.
You mean volleyball right? Most WNBA chicks look like the results of a wild weekend with Larry Bird and Scottie Pippen
someday we'll get back to having our own secret private worlds...
that's definately true especially in the wnba, although they'll deny it....straight, Christian and white....you're gone for sure....but even black women bb players will get hounded out if they're straight...
Lesbian? My first thought was Trump supporter.
Some were pretty rough.
I knew one, about 6’4”, when you saw her walk into the martini bar at 10 p.m., tight skirt, long, blonde and tanned...every head in the joint swung her way, women included.
Wonders what a win, a shower and a brand new set of threads will do for a girl.
Thx
One can have their own ‘secret, private world’, and still conduct oneself as a civilized person. I haven’t known many gay women, but I’ve known quite a few gay men, most of whom have been dignified and extraordinary gentlemen.
Sometimes, though, what the APA once called a psychiatric disorder - and which it then changed to a sexual orientation disturbance. - and now seems to simply throw up its hands over - (because, you know, thought on this is always ‘evolving’ and we don’t really know what causes it) - -
exhibits negatively, in an individual’s character.
Got a granddaughter being heavily recruited by D1 basketball schools. Baylor, UCONN, Iowa, Ohio State, etc. Worry for her.
When Sheryl Swoopes transferred to Tech from UT Austin (and helped Tech win the Natl championship in 93) it was for much the same reason - if you weren’t a Les you weren’t playing no matter how good you were.
This is horrible. The heart-rate monitor stuff is creepy - and taking a girl’s dog away and giving it to a stranger? If true, it sounds like the bitch (not the dog) didn’t want the girl to have any compensating love in her life.
Expect to see more and more of these stories.
A significant number of athletes in men's football and men's and women's basketball wouldn't be academically eligible to enter their schools without the athletic exemptions.
Some of them have legit complaints. College sports is insanely dirty in the revenue sports.
Dirty little secret is that most athletic departments lose money. Athletics is there to advertise the college. Football gets alumni to come back to campus. If the athletics programs become a black eye for the colleges, It's possible that quite a few schools will start dumping their athletic departments.
From USA Today:
The Florida State athletic department spent just over $150 million on its teams during the 2019 fiscal year, according to documents obtained by USA TODAY in partnership with Syracuse Universitys S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications. So, Florida State is a big time college as far as athletics goes, and they generated a profit of $2 million on a $150 million budget. That's dwarfed by research grants.
The athletic department generated a revenue of just over $152 million. It's the fifth time in the last six years that FSU has generated more total revenue than the department has spent.
A lot of these kids don't realize they're getting dangerously close to being more trouble than they're worth.
Your post may have some valid points, but I’m not sure they are applicable to this thread.
Did you read the actual story that this thread addresses, which Levy78 posted in #18 of the thread? - and do you think that this is a proper way for a coach to conduct herself, or that players have no right to protest against this kind of treatment?
Is the ‘pro’ who teaches her a man?
Men don’t always know what women can stand up to.
I would suggest that your friend keep honing her skills, continue competing, and simply smile all the bitches down :-)
Apologies - it was OrangeHoof who posted the original article in post 18.
You’re granddaughter’s coach can steer her away from the lesbian coaches and programs. Just need to ask around.
A straight coach will be quick to mention that she has a male husband and the status of the assistant coaches. There are also ways to find out if there are lesbian players on the team.
