Nearly three-fourths of Portland voters believe their city is on the wrong track, according to a new poll commissioned by The Oregonian/OregonLive.
Only 13% of Portland voters said the city is headed in the right direction, according to the poll of 600 people conducted by DHM Research from Oct. 5 through Monday.
Residents in the three-county metro area who live outside of Portland were even more sour. Fully 84% said things in the Portland area are on the wrong track, while only 9% said they are headed in the right direction.
Southeast Portland resident Kierstin Buchner, who was among the poll respondents who said the city is on the wrong track, said she is frustrated with the city’s inability to address a sharp rise in homelessness and gun violence.
She said she sees needles and human feces on the sidewalk and garbage piling up near a homeless camp a block from her house and no longer feels safe walking her dog in the neighborhood. When the city has swept nearby camps, they’ve just popped up again a few blocks away, she said. Along with homelessness, she is concerned about the rise in homicides and rampant catalytic converter theft in Portland and finds herself wanting to leave the city where she grew up.
“Clearly, what we’ve been doing isn’t working and the people who have the power to make decisions aren’t making the right decisions,” said Buchner, 48. “I don’t know a single person who isn’t frustrated with the situation in Portland.”

Why would a for-profit enterprise want to get involved in a local election anyway?
More crime brings more viewers/readers, thus more advertising revenue. Nobody cares about last Monday’s meeting of the Rose City Rain Forecast Council. Everyone is concerned about crime, especially so when it’s nearby.
Portland needs a thorough house cleaning at City Hall, along with an infusion of honest, tell-it-like-it-is newshounds not beholden to either the advertisers or the politicians.

Interesting side effect: in my blue state, I hear far less bitching about gas and food prices, because I believe those people who voted for this know, somewhere in that primitive part of their reptilian Leftist brains, that they are responsible for it, and shouldn’t draw attention to the obvious by whining about it.
You do hear whining from ignorant or brainless (often both) people who DID vote for this, but don’t have two brain cells to make contact with each other and establish the connection.
If they did, they would consciously be shamed into silence, for the same reasons the dedicated Leftists (who unconsciously KNOW they are responsible) stay silent.
The “dedicated Leftists” don’t want the neon billboard above their heads with a downward pointing arrow blinking on and off saying “IDIOT DOUCHEBAG! IDIOT DOUCHEBAG! IDIOT DOUCHEBAG!”

But deep inside, those “dedicated Leftists” know the truth, and have to attempt to change the perception of reality in their own brains (and those of others) so they can avoid the destructive cognitive dissonance that would normally result.
They often succeed in brainwashing themselves to a degree, but they can never fully remove that disparity between THEIR reality and the true reality, so like a bullet ricocheting around the inside of a tank, that cognitive dissonance (that the disparity causes) destroys the glue that holds sanity together in their heads, and they get closer and closer to a mass insanity.
Lastly, even they understand the maxim “Better to stay silent and have people think you are an ignorant, American-hating jackass, then to open your mouth and remove all doubt.”
In observing this maxim, they manage to conceal their destructive stupidity from the ignorant and stupid liberal “useful idiots” by doing that, and thus, they manage to live and fight their corrosive anti-American battles on other days.

We’ll never sway these morons, our only hope is that a very small fraction of people who voted for Brandon, say 2-3% of them, realize their mistakes and vote the opposite way.
But then we have another problem, the GOP majority in Congress will only accomplish one thing, and that is that the Dems no longer have the majority. Other than that, they will do nothing.
Yet they STILL keep voting in those leftist mayors and other leftist politicians and judges and STILL protest, riot, and perpetrate leftist violence daily.
They wanted to be the city where young people go to ‘retire.’ They wanted homeless encampments and defund police. They wanted to ‘keep Portland weird.’
They got it. No sympathy for them.
Fortunately, Dominion thinks everything is going the right direction.
Sigh. I am pessimistic about that as well. As history has shown us, when the Left gets power, they spindle, fold, bend, and mutilate the Constitution to achieve their Leftist goals, which often involve persecution of their foes.
When Republicans get into power, they not only participate in the spindling, folding, bending, and mutilation of the Constitution under the rubric of “bipartisanship” (which the Leftists publicly and solemnly proclaim as the way things should work, while snickering to each other in private at the abject stupidity of Republicans) but the Republicans also steadfastly refuse to undo the damage done from the Left, and refrain from punishing those who break the law.
I think we are broken. But I can’t give up and surrender yet. History shows me that my hopes will be in vain, but as they say in Soviet Russia: “Hope Dies Last.”

My parents are in the “ignorant or brainless” liberal category. Now that my father is gone my mother has to file taxes now. She complains endlessly about how high gasoline prices are and why she has to pay for so many taxes. Meanwhile she is writing checks to donate to every democrat and every democrat front group in the state.
By the way she gets her political information from daytime talk shows including “The View.” Needless to say I don’t visit often.
The 85% aren’t complaining about liberalism. They are complaining because Portland hasn’t gone pure socialist.
