PRESS STATEMENT
Nine years ago, Russia invaded Ukraine and seized Crimea – a clear violation of international law and of Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. The United States welcomes the efforts of Ukraine’s Crimea Platform to focus global attention on Russia’s continued occupation. The United States does not and never will recognize Russia’s purported annexation of the peninsula. Crimea is Ukraine.
If the U.S. Department of Deep State said it, the opposite must be true.
If it’s to be global nuclear war, it will be initiated by the same aggressor that invaded its neighbor. Russia has an ostensible “no first use” policy regarding its strategic weapons. If Putin breached that policy, he and he alone would be responsible for starting such a war. Rest assured, if Putin does start it, we would finish it, with an even worse outcome for Russia than it is experiencing from its blunder in Ukraine.
Pretty accurate. NeoCons were originally Trotskyites fro New York.
Russian nuclear threats anymore are so tiresome.
The US and NATO have troops in Ukraine. It isn’t much of a secret.
Barbarians never understand civilized behavior.
Sudetenland ist Deutschland. (Which actually is Putin’s argument: Ukraine is Russian.)
It’s amazing how many historical ignoramuses out there will say it’s Russian.
The Russians tried to suggest Romanian was a Slavic language too and Romanians were descended from them. They even forced the Cyrillic language on them.
Russians are liars.
Always have been, always will be.
Russians are everybody’s friendly neighbor.
They are evil Mongols who can’t function in civilized society.
The American Ghetto is better at humanity than they are.
“”The US and NATO have troops in Ukraine. It isn’t much of a secret.””
Who, where, doing what?
Grab some more yachts.
The problem with this logic is, Russia unilaterally redrawing its borders in order to make its “no first use unless Russia is directly attacked” doctrine redundant.
Nothing stops them pulling the same trick on any other country.
Zaporozhzhia was annexed in a ceremony in Moscow despite Russia controlling only the low population rural south of the Oblast. Less than a quarter of the adult residents of the Oblast pre invasion even got invited to vote.
There’s more than twice as many people in Zaporozhzhia city who would’ve almost certainly voted against annexation than voted for it.
So the referendum is illegitimate in every conceivable sense BUT it enabled the fait accompli of Moscow saying if NATO puts boots into Zaporozhzhia city - a city they’ve got no control over at all - that’s exactly the same in their eyes as NATO tanks rolling into the Red Square. Nukes are an option.
The arguments to the effect that, well, the West has done some truly naughty stuff in the past therefore why shouldn’t we let Russia pull a stunt like this, miss the existential problem with it.
Even the USSR understood that when nations with nukes start arguing over which one of them “owns” a disputed territory, all it takes is one side to put an unacceptable presence in the disputed area to trigger a nuclear exchange from the other.
So the final arbiter of who is in charge of which ex Soviet country has to be the population of that country, and its government, and its president.
Russia’s future is for Russia to decide; Ukraine’s future is for Ukraine to decide. Neither has any legitimate claim over the territory of the other.
That principle was enshrined into the Belovezha and Budapest agreements.
Dumb-as-stump Putin puffing armchair generals on both sides of the USA/Russia borders make ridiculous biased assumptions around it. The cognitive dissonance is absurd.
If Russia annexed Mexico then America would go postal. If America annexed Ukraine, Russia would go postal. Yep.
But they’re okay with Russia just redrawing Ukraine’s borders over a vodka or two, claiming Ukraine territories that quite clearly don’t belong to them are now Russian, and Ukraine (entirely in accordance with international law) calling on two key NATO partners to honor the Budapest agreement by coming to their aid.
Difference between Russia and NATO is, NATO was in Ukraine at Ukraine’s invitation, in accordance with signed agreements. Russia is in Ukraine in violation of every one of its signed agreement from the last 45 years.
If signed agreements hold no weight at all in Moscow, then peace negotiations with Moscow are meaningless.
Yep.
I just saw the pressure is ramping up for Ukraine (US) to go on the offensive.... its all falling into place nicely for MIC
Bump
Let me break it down for you
“Crimea Is Ukraine”
When asked if Kosovo is part of Serbia, Mr. Price replied “No Comment”.
NATO has had a training facility near Lviv for years. Poland recently admitted to having troops in Ukraine, and there’s plenty of video showing Americans fighting for Ukraine.
But we call them Little Green Men which Russia should understand.
Apparently not.
