Westneat: Trump’s support cracking
The Columbian ^ | July 22, 2023 | Danny Westneat

Posted on 07/22/2023 6:58:51 AM PDT by Reno89519

The day he broke up with Trump was one of his toughest, Hossein Khorram says.

“I was heartbroken,” the Clyde Hill man told me. “I felt like I was betraying a friend.”

Khorram, 62, is one of the more gregarious behind-the-scenes players in local Republican politics. As a max donor and the finance chairman of “Trump Victory Washington State,” he helped raise money here for Donald Trump’s 2020 presidential campaign.

Khorram, a Muslim, also made himself widely available to cheerfully parry critiques that Trump is anti-immigrant or racist. Khorram, an Eastside developer, continued to back Trump well past the catastrophe of the 2020 election and the Jan. 6 riot at the U.S. Capitol.

As recently as February 2022, he donated $5,000 to a support group aimed at resurrecting Trump’s political career, a committee called “Make America Great Again, Again.” (This is the same fund that last week was revealed to have paid Melania Trump $155,000 for consulting on tableware and floral arrangements.)

But after Republicans bombed in the 2022 midterm elections, and especially after the criminal indictments started piling up for the ex-president this spring, Khorram says it hit him.

“Trump’s time has come and gone,” he says he realized.

In late May, Khorram maxed out instead to Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis’ presidential campaign, new federal disclosure forms show. He also signed on to be DeSantis’ rainmaker in Washington state.

“I switched horses,” he told me. “In politics, it’s winner take all, loser take none. And the fact is for me: I no longer think Trump can win.”

And yet he continues to dominate in polling.

I guess the weak-testicled don’t do polls

—> First, Trump lost

That right there is your problem.

Once you break with reality, you’re a sucker for any narrative.

“””That is the path to victory. Not Guns. Not Abortion. Not Tax Cuts. Drain the Swamp and Build the Wall.”””

I agree, I still remember that it was Trump who said out loud what the people had been thinking for years. So when Trump said he was going to Build The Wall and stop illegals, those Trump words were heard by millions of people who had been saying the same thing themselves for many years.

Just like some FReepers love to blog pimp Sundance and National Pulse on the daily. Does that bother you too, or is it only anti-Trump articles that bother you?

Because the Republican Swamp party, pre Trump, was Swamp..

Bush,Bush,McCain,Romney, aren’t Pro Trump.
They are/were Pro Swamp.

That’s the R party Trump and MAGA infiltrated.

Your R party appears to be okay with Democrats stealing from Trump

That is not a MAGA problem.
That’s a Swampy Republican party that birthed Bushes,Cheney’s,McCains, Romney’s as their White House timber, problem.

I prefer to see the Bushes R party whither and die right next to the Dem party..

They deserve each other..

I held my nose and voted for them too. No More. Trump is a fighter, he’s not polished and says dumb things (oh, to be human). Oh well, the deep state can keep their pretty boys. Everyone I come in contact with sees our country going to hell fast and will only vote for President Trump. Just because they aren’t on tv or written about in some obscure blog doesn’t mean it’s not true.

“As I’ve wrote in other threads, show me one new person to back Trump.”

That is today’s dumbest quote, by far. Pulled straight out of your ass.

Trump got many more millions of votes his second election than his first. That is the only concrete way possible to gauge his appeal, other than the polls, which I am sure you can’t believe. Only polls that show DeSantis in a more favorable light are the ones you count valid. The contradiction is evidently beyond your mental capacity.

Trump just called for the death penalty for human trafficers. Although this is heinous activity, calling for the death penalty after watching a movie is a big fail.

As outrageous as all the witchhunts are, the drip drip drip is hurting him.

His heavy handed rhetoric against other conservatives who don’t bend knees for him should be used against the totalitarians.

Add in a huge chunk of the public that is unaware and you have a recipe for a lost election.

You’re wrong. The only thing “cracked” is Seattle Slimes Number One Crackpot Feature Writer Danny Westneat. This guy is a chump and a proven liar. You can’t believe a word he writes, ever.

No he’s not.

Show me one supporter DeSantis has gained in the past 3 months.

And he lost, even if stolen. What about 2024, can he win if he got the same vote?

The answer is no. The elephant in the room is voter fraud, which has not been adequately addressed by the fractured RINO/MAGA/Establishment: republican Congress or republican state houses or republican counties.

Biden won in 2020 with various applications of voter fraud. I believe the democrat 2024 nominee for President will do the same. There is one caveat. If a 3rd party candidate like Cornell West runs - he may siphon off a very large number of black and liberal votes that could help Trump win. Then again, the democrat fraud machine probably has an answer to illegally reduce Cornell West vote totals.

And he lost, even if stolen.

LOL. What kind of reasoning is that? It was stolen. Trump received 11 million more votes than in 2016 or a 17% increase. Trump is the only incumbent President to receive more votes the second time and lose.

What about 2024, can he win if he got the same vote?

Of course. 74 million legal votes is the largest ever received by za sitting President surpassing Obama's record total in 2008 of 69 million and 66 million in 2012.

And, importantly, as I’ve asked, is there any proof or suggestion that Trump is adding voters for 2024. No. That is simple fact, maybe inconvenient, but fact.

Fact? Where is the proof Trump won't receive more votes? You seem to ignore the the corrupt, compromised, illegitimate, feeble, incompetent 82 year old (in Nov 2024) occupant in the WH. The overwhelming majority of Dems don't want him to run again. Biden is underwater on all the major issues and he has got us into another endless war. What will the House investigations reveal about the Biden Crime Family? Will Biden receive 81 million ballots the second time? If the Reps can stop or attenuate the fraud, Trump will win by a landslide.

Honestly I don’t want them to - It could work but it would concentrate the only apparent conservative candidates we have in one group. DeSantis needs to keep pushing on Florida and help coordinate states efforts.

Frankly I’m appalled there’s no coordinated effort at ALL by the GOP to defend the country (or their party)

“The only thing cracking is you and your personal vendetta against Trump.”

Criticism of Trump is not a personal vendetta. Being worried about the election is not a condemnation against Trump. Your own personal attacks against someone who posts are distateful to say the least.

“Trump has a large percentage of supporters that will not abandon him no matter what happens, which in many ways is admirable.”

That large percentage is not enough. The large percentage of voters are not MAGA and I fear for the election.

“I stil don’t understand why Trump/DeSantis join forces”

Because DeSantis is his own man and wouldn’t want to be Trump’s junkyard dog.
