Rep. Elise Stefanik files ethics complaint against judge in Trump's civil fraud trial

WASHINGTON — Rep. Elise Stefanik, the House GOP conference chair, has filed a judicial ethics complaint against the judge presiding over the New York civil fraud case against Donald Trump, accusing Judge Arthur Engoron of “weaponized law fare” against the former president, and calling on the judge to recuse himself.

Engoron had exhibited “clear judicial bias” against Trump, including by telling Trump’s attorney that the former president is “just a bad guy” whom New York Attorney General Letitia James “should go after,” Stefanik, R-N.Y., said in a letter to the New York State Commission on Judicial Conduct. She said the judge had failed to honor Trump’s due process rights, concerns that she said are exacerbated by the former president’s position as the frontrunner for the presidential nomination.

Engoron is presiding over the bench trial of a $250 million lawsuit, meaning the judge will also determine guilt and sentencing in the case. Stemming from a lawsuit James filed last year, it charges Trump with inflating asset values for financial gain. Trump testified angrily on Monday in the high-stakes case and has complained and clashed with the judge for weeks.

Engoron issued a partial gag order on Trump last month after he made disparaging remarks about a law clerk on social media and to reporters. He was fined twice for violating the gag order. The judge expanded the gag order last week to include the former president’s lawyers.

Good on Ms. Stefanik!

I don’t know if her action will bear fruit but it is EXACTLY the kind of SPEAKING OUT against the injustice that our right-thinking elected officials ought to be doing! (And all of us as well, wherever the opportunity presents.)

Gee just in time to help Trump avoid being persecuted during the campaign.

She deserves the Mike Pence Award for bravery.

Engoron the moron clearly believes he “has no bias”, and therefore, no reason to recuse himself. He also has no moral compass, or any core beliefs beyond “Orange Man bad”, which fulfilled his duties in being appointed to sit on this kangaroo court.

Letitia James is just - ambitious. For what, is not at all apparent, but she possesses neither the intelligence nor the basic logical thinking processes to actually pursue much of anything. Everybody’s nightmare when confronted in a bureaucratic setting.

Amen, NT!!

At least a Pubbie is actually doing something!

Amazing to see any whining, over this.

This case should be thrown out, yesterday, over this hack “judge”, if nothing else. Not to mention their fabricated “evidence”.

Good on Rep Stefanik!!

Thx for posting/pinging, Gran.

If Trump loses, take $250 million from New York’s federal aid and give it to Trump to make him whole.

As for doing business in NY, Trump should have stopped long ago. My mom moved to Florida in 1978. My father sold his share of a department store chain in 1977.

Trump has been doing real estate business for a long time. The general trend in real estate is for prices to rise.

If Trump’s NYC office properties are worth less because of New York’s failure to provide due process and equal protection of the law to New York’s crime victims, then the value of that claim should be counted as an asset of Trump.

If New York protects bums and welfare recipients but not office building owners and office workers, then Amendment XIV is being violated.

“Letitia James”

Hatred and power are a very bad combination.

Has she made any effort to find Epstein’s fellow child abusers?

She can easily find the names of the victims from court records. She could find the people associated with Epstein and get their images from two decades back.

You’re welcome.

Do RINOS not realize that if they can do it to Trump, they WILL do it to them?

They are THAT stupid, aren’t they?

“I would love to read this, Your Honor, if I could? Am I allowed to do
that?” Trump politely asked the judge, according to a NY Post report.

The judge refused.

Trump wrote later: “This is what I wanted to submit to the court that the Judge refused to take, because he doesn’t want anybody to know about the ‘Disclaimer Clause’ at the beginning of each Financial Statement I submitted.”

Trump’s case is a disgrace to the Legal and Judicial System of New York.
Hopefully the Appellate Courts will stop this travesty of Justice.
