Rarely have intraparty battles between Republicans in Texas been as bitter, protracted and consequential as the primary contests culminating in Election Day on Tuesday.
The fights have primarily focused on members of the Texas House who angered many conservative voters last year by impeaching the Republican attorney general, Ken Paxton, on charges of corruption and abuse of office. Mr. Paxton, who was acquitted in the Texas Senate, vowed revenge, and number one in his sights has been the house speaker, Dade Phelan.
Gov. Greg Abbott has also been going after a number of Republicans in the Texas House, seeking to unseat those who opposed his plan to use public money to help families pay for private and religious schools.
Aggressive campaigning by both statewide leaders is amplifying tensions that have simmered for years between the party’s old guard and a more socially conservative faction aligned with former President Donald J. Trump that sees Tuesday’s vote as a chance to shift the balance of power in the Texas House, which has served as a moderating force in the state’s politics.

Primary tomorrow!
Simple way to identify which Texas Repub to endorse:
Follow the direction of Abbott and Paxton.
Texas needs to clean house!
NYT drivel.
Might as well been written by John Goodman the actor.
True and WHY those who live in district 30, need to vote for Dr. Carrie de Moor, for State Senator; Paxton has endorsed her. She is the REAL CONSERVATIVE,the Texas version of Maggie Thatcher and a GIGANTIC Trump supported!
I only read the NYT to see what they’re afraid of.
The NYT rides to try and rescue more of their infiltrators.
Paxton for President, 2028
Actually, I believe Abbott has endorsed people and organizations who voted to impeach Paxton.
So, if true, I’d say follow Paxton.
Except in a lot of cases they don't agree with one another. Turdlike Jacey Jetton is an example. He voted to impeach Paxton, yet Abbot is pimping him.
Yes. I wondered after I hit send if in fact there were differences between Paxton and Abbott over endorsements. Which is fine. The greater good prevails.
Paxton is way better than Abbott. Abbott only does the right thing when he’s forced to
...if I recall correctly, we got some campaign literature regarding one Terry Wilson, a member of our House of Representatives, and apparently he did vote to impeach Mr. Paxton...and is supported/endorsed by our Governor Abbott...politics is weird.....
So those who have yet to vote, in district 30, need to vote for Dr. Carrie de Moor!
EXACTLY !
I’ve been putting up a sign for the conservative candidate for my didtrict when I go out. Got a few people to vote for her. But out current RINO has a lot more money, more ads, etc. But Governor Abbott came here twice to rally for her, so got to see him!
In my district Abbott’s main concern is school choice. Plus our RINO votes liberal on other things too.
Abbott is a RINO weathervane. Paxton is a principled Conservative.
