Trump will not give a penny to Ukraine - Hungary PM Orban
BBC ^ | March 11, 2024 | Jaroslav Lukiv

Posted on 03/11/2024 5:06:45 AM PDT by McGruff

"He will not give a penny in the Ukraine-Russia war. That is why the war will end," the conservative premier said after meeting Mr Trump in Florida.

...

"It is obvious that Ukraine cannot stand on its own feet," Mr Orban told Hungary's M1 TV channel late on Sunday.

"If the Americans don't give money and weapons, along with the Europeans, then the war is over. And if the Americans don't give money, the Europeans alone are unable to finance this war. And then the war is over."

He added that Mr Trump had "pretty detailed plans" on how to end the Russia-Ukraine war - but did not elaborate.

“I would argue that if crude was pumped, shipped and sold in much larger quantities by the West, that world price per bbl would drop below what Russia needs to sell it for to continue their war, but I am not at all sure there is will to do so and the timeline for it to have effect is uncertain as well.”

Pretty much Jimmy Carter’s approach after Afghanistan, along with a massive arms build-up.

All Biden’s people had to do was COPY what Jimmy Carter, and then Reagan did...but no, they had to test Russia in combat, and now our weapons are the LAUGHING STOCK of the world.

Wow -- a presidential proclamation.

Do you think Reagan even read it before someone affixed his signature to it?

Trump authorized direct military aid to Ukraine -- pointless as it may have been.

My GAF about that Third World dump ended when a bunch of American leftists and their Ukrainian counterparts effectively attempted a coup against the Trump administration in 2019. Now, I wouldn't give a sh!t if Russia occupied Alexander Vindman's entire home country for a thousand years.

“We must pick our battles, one of which should be “can we prevent (or recover from) becoming a tyranny here in America.”

How many effing times do I have to say it? Of course I’m more concerned about what’s going on here. But a few of us can walk and chew gum simultaneously. Anyone who thinks Putin is going to stop at Ukraine is a fool just like anyone who thought Hitler was going to stop with the Sudetan.

“Our direct involvement in Ukraine reminds me most of Russia’s direct involvement in Cuba in the 1960’s.”

An apt comparison. I’ve been tired of America playing Armed and Dangerous International Pizza Guy for over two decades. But that doesn’t mean I have to like what’s going on over there. My friends have family over there still. It’s tough to watch them go through this. They’re actually Russian speakers from the “disputed” areas and they hate Russians with a passion I’ve never seen before.

They were kids when the Soviets ran Ukraine. Family members vanished without a trace, press ganged into the the Red Army, standing in hours long lines for toilet paper or bread. Some mighty long memories over there.

So I can sympathize. Add that to the fact that my dad is a two tour Nam vet who was on the receiving end of Russian weaponry back in the 60s and you can see why I have no love for Russians.

Our founders warned us all to eschew foreign entanglements for very good reasons.

It’s deep. Deep as in CIA Deep State. Trump knows.

CIA/NATO set up this entire scenario in hopes of wrecking Russia. Russia did what any sane country would have done and Ukraine is paying the price for being a puppet country. Unfortunately this includes many Ukrainians not in on the US gravy train. More money to Ukraine =more suffering for Ukraine with the added risk of WW3. Trump is 100% right to shut down this Deep State proxy war, hopefully before all of Ukraine is ruined and all of its fighting aged men (and women) are dead or maimed for life.

Maybe Ukraine’s murdering ethnic Russians in Eastern Ukraine was not such a good idea after all.

Anyone who thinks Putin is going to stop at Ukraine is a fool just like anyone who thought Hitler was going to stop with the Sudetan.

You may be right, but remember, no one reacted during the annexation of the Sudentan. They did, however, react strongly to the invasion of Poland. Something similar would happen if Putin went much past Ukraine.

I understand and agree with the first part of your paragraph, and I empathize with your second part.

honestly, you sound unhinged.

I absolutely disagree. For the most part, I agree with your take on things as regards this conflict, but if you take a moment to read Lurker's response to me, you will get a sense of why he's invested.

But these Zeeper/Ruzzia threads are often filled with much more heat than light. There seems to have been a polarization that won't easily be undone, here. I generally avoid those threads; I've only come into this discussion because we would be discussing Donald Trump's decisions in this conflict.

While I'm here, I'd like it if both you and Lurker tried to understand each other a little more. I won't bother with outright propagandists like marcusmaximus, but I've known both of you as decent and honorable Freepers for a long time now.

Consider it.

Russia is a paper tiger, a military that has been hollowed out by corruption and negligence.

Russia is beating the brakes off NATO and its proxies in Ukraine...the notion that the West can beat them easily gets debunked each time another Abrams/ Patriot/ HIMARS gets destroyed.

If there is a paper tiger in this fight, its the Europeans.

Your comparison to the Cuba missile crisis is a good one. I’d hope a Trump47 administration would QUIETLY offer Ukraine some kind of stipend in exchange for verifiable information on EVERY US government official, or family member of same, who was paid for any purpose. It shouldn’t be out loud as a frightened Republican cohort would absolutely participate in a new impeachment, including compromised R senators. But ALL such compromised politicians need to be prosecuted.
