As we all know, upstart revolutionary leaders often cultivate a nasty reputation so they can gain respect and create a climate of fear. Hence, his nickname may be a lot of hot air (and may be derived from his last name which is similar to "chorizo").
IIRC, Chérizier also claimed he made a pact with the devil to take over Haiti.
Bottom line: He may be as bad as he sounds (Idi Amin-like) or his reputation may be a Haitian-styled ad campaign.
