President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo granted Ghanaian citizenship to the iconic American musician Stevie Wonder on Monday at a ceremony in Accra.
Mr Wonder had indicated in a 2021 interview with Oprah Winfrey, another prominent African American talk show host, that he intended to live indefinitely in Ghana to protect his grandchildren and great-grandchildren from racial discrimination in the United States of America.

He had his first hit in 1963. I am sure it was horrible for a black child to live through the sixties, but he is an idiot. We have come light-years from then. Racism against blacks is not governmentally mandated anymore.
He can’t see it. I think his blindness plays a part in a decision like this. It never affected Ray Charles, though, who went through an infinitely more challenging period in this country.

I’m currently reading Baldwin’s “The Fire Next Time”. His key thought is ‘we don’t want your acceptance’ as well as the not going anywhere.
So there it is. You won’t get past that sentiment. By pulling a Kapernick Wonder can enjoy the fruits of his success here and dis the rest of us.
