Estonia has been "seriously" discussing sending troops to Ukraine in roles positioned away from the front lines, per a national security official.
Madis Roll, national security advisor to Estonia's president, told military news outlet Breaking Defense that his country's leaders were assessing the viability of sending Estonian soldiers to "rear" roles that wouldn't see direct combat in Ukraine.
Such a move would help relieve Ukraine's manpower crunch and allow it to send more soldiers to the front lines.
And while Estonia, a North Atlantic Treaty Organization country, prefers to act together with the alliance's major members, it's also not closed to the idea of jumping in with a smaller group of allies, Roll said.
"Discussions are ongoing," Roll told Breaking Defense. "We should be looking at all the possibilities. We shouldn't have our minds restricted as to what we can do."
Breaking Defense reported that Roll made these comments on Friday, just days after the country's defense chief, Gen. Martin Herem, told the outlet that Estonia had internally talked about sending troops to Ukraine.
But there hadn't been a "serious discussion" due to domestic political concerns, Herem told the military news site on May 9.
Estonia is one of the geographically closest NATO members to Russia, with an eastern border shared with the Russian regions Pskov and Leningrad. Its military relies largely on reservist units, with about 4,200 permanent staff and 38,000 reserve troops ready for wartime operations.

A country with a population less then San Jose, CA and its adjacent cities is seriously debating on whether or not to put its population in support roles against Mother Russia.

The Baltics are looking at the devastation of the Ukraine country, the deaths of large number of it’s young men and the utter waste due to the incompetence and greed of the money men in Black Rock, Vanguard, and the government grifters...... and are praying that somehow an American soldier gets killed by a Russian... so we’ll send “trip wire” troops to get blown up “a little” in Estonia, Latvia or Lithoania in order to have this generation’s Gulf of Tonkin charade.....let’s send our sons to die for Baltic and Ukrainian democracy and transgender rights.
Everybody is ignoring what is REALLY on the horizon. It’s not anywhere NEAR the eastern European war, the Chinese “threat” or the mideast..... it’s Africa.
Putin will do what he wants after he cuts Ukraine in half, scares little Moldova and “pacifies” the Baltics.....
Then the real party is going to start down in Africa where all the chromium, platinum, uranium, gold, cobalt, diamonds,crude oil, natural gas, coal, charcoal, silver, lead, iron ore, zinc, and manganese are just waiting for us to take after we depopulate those countries. Just need to give Bill Gates some more vaccine money and the UN “peacekeepers” more weapons.
They might wake up after the Mexicans talk to them about BT799 genetically modified (GM) corn and why the US won’t talk to Mexico about doing studies on “depopulation”.
The Poles and Germans will join their coalition. Once they directly engage Russia and get whacked, the “Western Alliance” will get the band back together.
If you mean the Baltics they don’t have much population to work with, Latvia is about 1.9 million people, Lithuania 2.8, Estonia 1.3., all three nations put together equal about the Atlanta metro area.

How long would those troops last? A week?
NATO has the ability to win a conventional war against Russia but what follows. It is probably nuclear and no winners in this war. The Minsk accords would have prevented this war. Our side violated those accords by trying to incorporate the Ukraine into NATO. This is what started this war. The real hell of it is when the Ukraine gave up their nuclear weapons back to to Russia after the Soviet Union collapsed, they had assurances by NATO and the USA to protect them. We did not and thus the slow war of attrition in the East of Ukraine and now total war. The nation of Ukraine would be whole an well and not part of NATO if not for the idiocy of NATO and the USA and our broken promises. This is a war that should have never happened.
