Nolte: Thieves Steal Tesla’s Electric Vehicle Charging Cables for Copper in California
Breitbart ^ | 05/16/2024 | JOHN NOLTE

Posted on 05/16/2024 8:58:32 AM PDT by ChicagoConservative27

3:07 If Democrat-run California wants to force residents into electric vehicles (EVs), Democrat-run California had better start cracking down on crime. Talk about the law of unintended consequences…

“Thieves are targeting high-powered Tesla and other EV charging stations and stealing the heavy cable for the copper metal inside,” reports San Francisco’s NBC affiliate. “In Vallejo, someone cut cables from nine charging stations — leaving Tesla drivers in a bind and causing tens of thousands of dollars in damage and repair costs.”

“I think this is the second time or third that these have been cut,” a local EV driver added. “So they need to put some gates up or something. I don’t know what they can do, but this is pretty inconvenient.”

Don’t you see the beauty of all this…?

EV drivers vote for Democrats.

Democrats pass regulations that demand residents switch to EVs.

Democrats also pass laws that basically decriminalize crime.

Has been happening since day ONE.

Sell the car with a “MALE end” on each end——Car has orofice-—charger has orofice.

Problem solved....

UNLESS the jerks use Gorila Glue in the charger orofice.

I wonder what the copper value of Wheat Backed pennies are now? I am sure it is more than a penny.

According to coinflation.com copper cents minted before 1982 are worth a bit more than 3¢ each for their copper.

These fast charging cables contain four very thick wires.
At least 0 AWG coper ones are used.
That is very substantial amount of coper. Like couple of pounds per foot!
Since they are usually several charging stations lined up next to each other, you can collect quite a good amount of cash!
My little calculator tells me a cable like this is about 20 lb of coper. $100 for cable is a pretty penny.

Need to switch to aluminum, 1/5 the incentive to steal.

++++++++++

Good idea, however I suspect there would be an issue of metal fatigue/work hardening of the aluminum wires with repeated flexing. Still might be more economical than the copper used today, even if frequent replacement is needed.

Another idea is to have the existing cables retract into the charge station. Yes that would cost many millions in development and upgrade, but if EVs are the future....
(Not an EV fan...)

Doesn't aluminum have more resistance to electricity? (which is one reason you're not supposed to use aluminum for home wiring) Given that power that flows through these, I would imagine the heat produced would be significant.

One little point. Don’t you copper thieves care anything about the environment and the fight against the fossil fuel industry that hurts climate change? Forcing EVs onto everyone is set back if people can’t charge them.

Only $2 a pound for clean copper here. Less if there is insulation. But it’ll be enough to get a fix of Mexican meth or fentanyl. And some people just like breaking stuff.

“Tell the prosecutors and judges that women need to charge their Teslas to get to the clinics to murder their children.”

And to get their living children to the gender reassignment center.

I wonder if it will change when some politicians can’t charge their car on their way up to Napa.

Well, yes. it surely should have been considered when planning charging stations. I wondered about it when I saw the first picture of thick cables from pump to car connection.

Yeah well guess why democrats can’t make a circle can’t make ends meet.

Utopian dreams have their own reasoning.

I paid $150 last week for 50 feet of 10/2 electrical wire. More than Joe Biden is behind that kind of inflation???????
