Russia Won't Accept Any Ultimatums on Ukraine - Putin
Sputnik News ^ | 5/17/24

Russia wants to understand whom it can trust before engaging with partners on the Ukrainian conflict, President Vladimir Putin said during a trip to China on Friday.

"We must understand with whom and how we can engage and whom and to what degree we can trust. We are of course analyzing everything that is going on," Putin told a press conference in Harbin.

The president pointed to China as a stakeholder that was sincerely trying to put an end to the conflict in Ukraine.

"We believe that China is sincere about its efforts to solve this problem. It has suggested different options and has been very flexible about it," Putin said.

Commenting on the Swiss initiative on Ukrainian peace, the Russian president stressed that Moscow would not accept ultimatums.

"It is clear what this event is all about: bringing together as many countries as possible to claim that they have everything agreed on and then giving Russia an ultimatum," Putin said, adding he would not have it.

Russia is keeping tabs on the preparations for the Swiss conference on Ukraine, which is due on June 15-16, the president said.

"We are of course analyzing everything happening in this regard. We are watching everything that has to do with the planned meeting in Switzerland," he confirmed. Putin suggested that Ukraine and its donors were trying to force Kiev’s vision of a peace deal on Russia but warned that such attempts were doomed to fail.

"First they tried to deal a strategic defeat but failed. Any attempt to force [Russia’s] hand will have the same result," the president warned.

Russia will accept an invitation to peace negotiations as agreed in Istanbul in 2022, Putin said.

"We have a framework for negotiating process, which is what we agreed on in Istanbul......

Considering the way Western Leaders have ADMITTED to lying to Russia in 2014, why should Russia trust today’s batch of ‘leaders’, especially today’s batch?

Russia will end their operation when their objectives are met, that simple.

“What a waste of lives and money for nothing.”

Indeed. The Russians supposedly started this war to prevent any new members from joining NATO and now Finland and Sweden have joined NATO. Further, both Switzerland and Austria are integrating their forces with NATO, a precursor step towards formal membership. Moldova is also a likely candidate for NATO membership.

Russia wanted to steal away Crimea and now the peninsula is untenable for military use. The Russia Black Sea squadron has been forced to retreat from Sevastopol to Novorossiya. Air fields are also being evacuated to prevent further loss of irreplaceable Soviet-era aircraft.

At the end of this the Russians will be denied their victory in Ukraine (and Moldova) and the Putin regime will likely collapse from within.

And at what cost? 500,000 dead Russian men? 1,000,000 dead Russian men? All so “Vladimir the Terrible” (the name given to him by Russia 1 Television) can have a legacy?

“Pride goeth before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall.”

- Proverbs 16:18

This ought to put paid to notions that a fair peace deal can be contrived as to Ukraine. Putin sees himself as winning and is not inclined to accept anything less than victory on his terms.

Ukraine has lost much territory, taken the bulk of the military casualties, virtually all of the civilian deaths, economic distress and destroyed infrastructure.

Finland and Sweden join NATO, scary!

Another nation destroyed by NATO hubris.

Our leaders also lied about the grain deal. They were supposed to hook the Russian bank back to Swift and allow fertilizer sales to resume. Instead we reneged on that and blew up Nordstream.

DC has lied too much and broken every treaty it signed.

“The Russians supposedly started this war to prevent any new members from joining NATO”

No, that is a big part, but that is far from the only reason.
When nazi elements seized the government, they attacked Russian speaking areas in the east with artillery, killing over 10,000. The Ukes were going to make Crimea into a NATO navy base. Russia has been based there longer than Ohio has been part of America. And in the 1940s there was a huge war over there, tens of millions died. The Ukes are run by the direct heirs to the nazis that attacked then. Same emblems, same rhetoric, same flags, same torchlight parades.
No way that was going to be allowed.

It isn’t all just “NATO” and it isn’t the other old saw “rebuilding the empire”.

Trump must not know that he will be dealing from the hand of weakness on the issue. He apparently does not see what led to the problem and how it developed. He is solidly right in there with the neocons based on his comments. Disappointing.

Stop with the ‘nazi’ nonsense. Really. It’s just ignorant to accuse these people of being ‘racist nazis’ when they elected and freely take orders from a Jewish comedian.

As to what the Ukrainians want to do with their country that’s their business.

Also, I am noticing Russia supporters have a schizoid disconnect going with Russian history. When it suits them they claim that the Russian Federation has “absolutely nothing” to do with Imperial Russia and the USSR.

But when it comes to Crimea these same people will insist there’s a continuum between Imperial Russia, the USSR, and the Russian Federation...which I would agree with, the continuum part.

Interesting.

The article is simply reporting what Putin said. Do you want to tell us that Putin never said these words and that Sputnik just made it all up?

I "get" that you don't believe or trust Putin but that's an entirely different issue. We know that Sputnik is a Russian government outlet. In fact, that's a good thing in this situation, since we know it will report exactly what Putin said, rather than edit it and twist it as our own beloved news outlets do.

Learning what Putin is saying (love it or hate it) is, after all, the objective here.

You’re mistaking this propaganda piece for a transcript. It is not a transcript.

No, I'm not mistaking it for a "transcript". My claim is simple and specific; that Putin actually said the words in quotation marks in the article.

Do you want to tell us that he didn't?

I understand that you consider Putin's every utterance to be "propaganda" but how does a faithful reporting of his words qualify as "propaganda"?

There’s a lot of spin and “clarification” in that article. It isn’t just quotes and the spin nullifies the claim of ‘faithful reporting’.

And the point of the article, and the point of Sputnik News itself, is to advance the interests of the Russian Federation in the media...including Free Republic.

This all started in 2014 when Obama used his smelly anal fingers to foment a coup in Ukraine, and remove the duly elected president Viktor Yanukovych.

The 2014 “Color Revolution” was 100% funded by the Obama CIA and put in motion by the Deep State Golden Calf worshiper Victoria Nuland.

All Ukraine presidents since 2014 have been beholden to the degenerate Globohomo Eurotrash. Russia was forced to finally act to protect Russians in the Donbass.

Now there are a million dead Slavs (Ukrainian and Russian) which was very likely the Deep State plan all along.

Cut and paste the “spin” which is not supported by Putin’s actual words.
