Whitehouse: Trump Made ‘Obvious Quid Pro Quo’ to Oil Executives
Breitbart ^ | 05/19/2024 | Pam Key

Posted on 05/19/2024 11:05:37 AM PDT by ChicagoConservative27

Senator Sheldon Whitehouse (D-RI) said Sunday on MSNBC’s “Velshi” that former President Donald Trump made an “obvious quid pro quo” when he allegedly asked for a $1 billion donation from oil executives during a meeting at his Mar-a-Lago resort last month.

Whitehouse said, “The problem we have is a little bit like the House. If we issue subpoenas, as the Judiciary Committee did to pursue the payments made to Justice Thomas, the Republicans said they would not enforce the subpoenas and they said they don’t comply and we won’t let them enforce it. I would expect something like that to happen. So a lot of this work is being prepared for is the day when perhaps the House comes back into Democratic hands and subpoenas can be enforced without winning a filibuster. A lot of preparatory work can go into that. It’s not like we are losing a lot of time, but the real game day begins after the November election when we find out whether we can enforce subpoenas against this industry or if the Department of Justice decides to have a look into this because they don’t need a vote of the Senate to investigate.”

“I don't understand WHY we haven't impeach Biden yet to show how stupid the whole process is!”

BTTT

Especially in light of Biden accepting millions from China, Russia, Iran and Ukraine. Every policy Biden has enacted was in China's, Russia's, Iran's and Ukraine's interests. He ended US energy supremacy making Americans poorer while enriching Putin who then like under Obama invaded Ukraine. Biden is now sending billions to Ukraine much of it unaccounted for. He ended sanctions with Iran and allows China to purchase oil from Iran giving Iran billions which enriches Hamas, Hezbollah, etc. Then there is the border. Biden is probably on The Cartels’ payrolls as well. Mexico and China are in to sex trafficking and fentanyl. It's outrageous!

There is no excuse why Biden has not been impeached. None!

A candidate asked for donations at a fund raiser?!?!

There is no evidence any promises were made beyond Trump’s very public position that he strongly supports developing America’s natural energy resources. He will reduce EPA red tape, open drilling in areas closed off by Biden, and encourage exploration. He will also be a salesman, marketing American energy to overseas customers.

OMG, a political campaign asked a special interest group for a donation and promised support for them if elected. WTF, this is something bad id done by the Don or Big Oil. Put them together and it’s criminal. Where’s the AG with an indictment? To be safe, you should just ask the CCP to put your son on the board of a Billion dollar slush fund.

The Ukraine is the DNC/Presidential money laundry. Brandon is on video tape bragging that he withheld foreign aid in exchange for the firing of the prosecutor investigating Hunter Biden’s crimes (Burisma’s). I wonder what the sum total of President’s Trump’s legal defense expenses for the countless lawfare suits and threats at this point.

Allegedly asked for a $1 billion donation.

Whether Trump asked or not, that's how funds are raised. Donations are solicited. It is in the interest of the oil companies to support Trump's drill, baby drill policy.

Extortion is when someone says fire the prosecutor or you're not gonna get the billion dollars.

Trump’s energy policy has remained consistent. He understands that increased domestic energy production is good for America. If oil companies also benefit, so be it. It’s not as if he’s promising them to do something that benefits them at the country’s expense.

It’s not a quid pro quo. Trump has been in favor of increased domestic energy production since 2015. He’s simply making the point to energy companies that his policies will benefit the as well as the rest of the country and that it’s to their advantage to support him. That’s the same thing he does to all other interest groups. He asks ordinary Americans to donate to his campaign because he’ll make life better for them by closing the border, cracking down on crime, reducing inflation, etc. No one would think to describe that as a quid pro quo. It’s what politicians do all the time.

The problem comes when politicians change their policies based on who donates to them and who doesn’t - in other words, when they do exactly what Joe Biden does.

The reason Biden is so zealously promising to ensure the Trump tax reform expires is not because he cares about raising taxes on millions of Americans — although that’s precisely what will happen — but because he wants to save his donors millions of dollars.

FR thread-——only a very small group of people will see substantial savings by Biden’s campaign promise to let the Trump tax reform expires: that would be the very wealthy in very blue areas.

For someone who talks incessantly about “the rich paying their fair share,” Biden is hellbent on giving a handout to the highest earners in the country — provided they live in a solidly Democrat-run state.

Senator Sheldon Whitehouse a living argument for repeal of the 17th Amendment!

Repeal the 17th Amendment!
State legislatures can’t do worse!

Though I imagine the Rhode Island legislature may try!
