Report: Pricey Electric Cars Driven 20 Percent Less Than Gas-Powered Vehicles
Breitbart ^ | 05/19/2024 | Amy Furr

Posted on 05/19/2024 2:06:53 PM PDT by ChicagoConservative27

Drivers are apparently choosing to drive gas powered vehicles over electric ones amid President Joe Biden’s (D) push for Americans to go green on the road.

A recent report from ISeeCars.com said drivers are using electric vehicles (EVs) 20 percent less than those powered by gas, the outlet reported Friday.

The news comes as Biden wants a national network of 500,000 publicly available EV chargers by 2030 as he charges ahead with his “climate agenda,” Breitbart News reported April 1.

Like most everything “green” EVs require a backup system.

After all is said and done, at the end of the day EVs just aren’t practical.....for MANY reasons.

Having to eventually pony up 10 to 12k for a new battery is lunacy.

These vehicles are purchased mostly by affluent families with multiple vehicles.

And while the EV is what is used when they go to the quarterly meeting of the Sierra club, or the fundraiser for their Democrat Congressthing, or the Planned Parenthood Meetup; most of the time and most of the miles they are in the Range Rover or G Wagen, which is otherwise carefully parked in the garage out of sight.

All performative and fake. Just like the entirety of Elite political agendas.

It’s not 12K.

Try 40K.

Gee, I wonder why?

Actually I’ll never have first hand experience to find out why first hand. Until they become as inexpensive and dependable as IC engines they are really unthinkable.

If I had that kind of money to waste, it would be on land or some other investment.

Yeah I’ve seen that article.

I was referring primarily to telsas.

Yeah, it’s because they’re either charging or die mid-journey.

What you say is true.

Teslas are still the best among these toys.

It would be fun to drove one at the track; they are the only car that can accelerate like a superbike. (The Tesla Plaid)

Then take your gas powered car back home.

EVs can work for certain applications. They won’t work for me but I’m fine, I have what I want and need.

My wife and I put 26K miles in our EV car last year. We got it when it was time to replace my wife's gas car anyway. And our agreement is we'd both use the EV. We quit saying "her car" and "his truck". Whichever of us drives the most that day takes the EV to save on gas (unless pickup chores are involved).

It works for us. And we're not Dims nor believe in their warmageddon cult BS. We're just looking for ways to save gas so that the Dims' war on energy and their ways of jacking up energy costs don't mess up our retirement financial planning. By my estimation, probably 12K miles per year (of local driving) is the threshold where the saving on gas and oil changes offset the other costs that come with an EV (based on the past year's worth of gas prices and power prices in Alabama). If you make most of your power at home with solar, the miles/year threshold is lower (in our case that's probably closer to 8K miles/year).

But to your point, EV's aren't for everyone. There's a lot of homework to do to make sure an EV is best for one of your two cars. And EV's shouldn't be subsidized or mandated. They should be a free market decision.

Unless you’re tooling around on a golf course, EVs are for fags.

Don’t believe the crap you read about EVs.

Any article about EVs is not about the type of vehicle, it’s about Tesla and it’s an attack on Elon Musk.

If you haven’t noticed, since he switched @Twitter to @X, the left have been unable to drive any false narrative on the public.

Every gaslighting attempt has been shot down and the leading element is @X.

When it comes to EVs vs ICE, buy what you want, mandates of any kind suck, but remember the mandates & tax breaks that are currently in effect were written for Ford & GM, not Tesla. So don’t fault the company for being able to capitalize

Tesla Plaid is much faster accelerating than any Superbike or Moto GP bike. It takes a dedicated drag bike to beat it.

I saw it drag race a BMW S1000RR and the Tesla won. It wasn’t a blowout but it was the only car that could hope to come close.

BTW I saw another video of it racing a cheetah from 0-60. The cheetah won, that is until it hit about 60 mph.

The dumb thing with the Teslas is the 15 minute prep routine they have to do to get the batteries into ludicrous-type mode whereas the bike can pull away from any stoplight with no prep at all (although a warmed tire would help).

But the Plaid’s best 0-60 times are way below the bike’s.

Which is cool....if all of your daily driving is at the track - har har

My motorcycle is fast. Not sportbike fast, but it can surprise you. Thing is, it is difficult to really tap into its performance in normal use. When I'm out in the country I can let it rip, but even then that's pretty briefly. You can't just haul ass all the time in real life.

To buy a vehicle like an EV, are all the shortcomings negated by screaming straight line acceleration? That question used to be asked about the Kawasaki H2, the Widow maker. At that time, the answer was hell yes. If you were 18.

It is not by choice ... they are lined up at charging stations waiting for their one hour charge.

I think there is a glaring omission here. They are just looking at the cost of fuel. Look at the cost of EV tires.

EVs are much heavier than tires for ICE cars and have much higher torque on the wheels. Their tires are larger and heavier than ICE cars and wear out much faster. I did a comparison with my gasoline F-150 that has premium tires versus an EV. I was going to save something like $10,000 on tires alone over the 50,000 mile life of my tires.

That’s another reason not to put extra miles on your EV. Its almost like Breitbart got sucked into putting out propaganda for building charging stations.
