Its been reported on Fox that President Bush may be headed here to Colorado Springs to stay at the NORAD facility. That might be okay for tonight, but he needs to get back to Wash-DC ASAP!
The President needs to get visible quickly, but things first have to be made secure for his arrival.
Then the President, Congress and the military need to start planning a proper and swift retaliation against whoever caused this horrific act.

Leadership demands that he be at the center of government, not hiding in some remote hideyhole DC is the last place to be if one is to be on top of the situation.

"We shall not be chased from our homes." The Office of the President has emergency proceedures to protect the President under all possible anticpated events. When emergencies occur, you are best able to react and coodinate the responses if you follow proceedures.
After the WTC attack, Air Force One took to the air with the President. Its apparent that while in the air, the Pentagon attack and the Pittsburg hijacked airliner occured, thus illustrating a threat condition.
One terrorist with a shoulder fired missle could sit awaiting the return of Air Force One at each Washington area airfield.
Nope...you follow pre-planned proceedures. Television appearances were the speciality of Clinton. Just do the job is my prayer for Bush.

Let's jes chill a bit.
Of course, that was addressed to posters in general and not you. :)

He is probably staying away from DC for good reason. Someone on NBC said that most of Congress had been evacuated to safer locations. The SS has probably got some intel on the DC area and are a little spooked to take POTUS there at this time. Besides, Junior can execute his duties anywhere.

My fellow Americans. I'm hiding out this evening, but rest assured, everything's under control, no need to panic...." FUD stands for Fear Uncertainty and Doubt, doesn't it. You're living up to your name. Congratulations....sheesh.

Andrea Mitchell sez Bush has failed to be our "Comforter in Cheif". That's a direct quote.

not hiding in some remote hideyhole.Uh...ok...if you count SAC as a remote hideyhole.

You are an idiot. Go away. Get back in your Democrats.com anti-American little rat corner.
Secret Service is telling President Bush where he can go in order to protect his life.
He will be leading America and has been. Shut your face up.

Offut and NORAD are similar installations - underground and in mountains. Either would be "a safe place".
I hope no freepers are doubting that are bombers were scrambled hours ago. That goes for the ones in the Persian Gulf too. I would be really suprised if we dont have bombers in the air waiting for coordinates.
To: sendtoscott
Offut's SAC facilities will withstand modern tactical nukes but not multiple hydrogen bombs. It was the hardened HQ for SAC to direct nuclear defense, standing in that role before the construction of Cheyenne Mountain. Offut is probably second only to Cheyenne Mountain in its safety. The Secret Service was wise to choose this location.
I expect he will stay there until returning to Washington. Being in the air is far more dangerous for him than being in one of the federal bunders like Offut.
To: Lady In Blue
Not nitpicking at all. At least, didn't intend to. These people (the terrorists) are hoping to shut down the US. They're hoping to SCARE US INTO A BUNKER MENTALITY. Bush can certainly fly in to DC, tape a message from the Oval Office, and leave again. I'm sorry to cause outrage.
To: Uncle Fud
"My fellow Americans. I'm hiding out this evening, but rest assured, everything's under control, no need to panic...." It would be totally irresponsible and stupid for him to go anywhere near Washington or New York. The PENTAGON was attacked by hostile forces. Camp David was targeted. Who's to say that there isn't someone with a suitcase nuke hiding out in DC right now just waiting for the President to return to Washington? Maybge that was the whole plan...
Keep him out of there. Let him run the country from Crawford.
To: mike2right
I agree whole heartedly. We do not need, nor do we have a right to know where Pres. Bush is. All we need to know is that he is safe, and well.
If I wanted to strike at the heart of America, the attacks we have had would be phase 1. A likely response would be to shut down all airports. This would remove all the clutter from the sky, and expose Air Force 1 to missle attack at several ambush points between his last known position, and Washington DC. The fact that he is NOT taking a direct route back to DC, is a demonstration that his people are doing the right thing.

Bush is at Offut Airforce base outside Omaha. This is the headquarters for STRATCOM, the US Strategic Command Center for US Strategic forces.
The facilicty was closed off earlier, sandbags were placed to to control traffic into the base.

Our good President can lead from NORAD just as easily and effectively as he can lead from the White House. He also seems safer in Air Force 1 under Military escort than he would be as a sitting duck, anywhere. I think the Secret Service is playing it smart and keeping him out of harm's way. I was relieved to hear that he wasn't in the W.H. when the Pentagon was hit.

RE #11 right on from another Native Texan. The public is not in a panic and realizes Dubya is taking care of business.

Andrea Mitchell sez Bush has failed to be our "Comforter in Cheif". That's a direct quote. Is that what we elected? A comforter? Dadgummit, he's our leader not our chief motivational speaker. I'll feel comforted when some Tomohawks and AFE have found their targets half way around the globe.
