I have created a public register of "bump lists" here on Free Republic. I define a bump list as a name listed in the "To" field used to index articles.

I just discovered this register and I see you would like more detail on KlamathBasinCrisis .

But I am not sure how one edits an existing name in the list.

I have added another name to the list -- Taliban_List which seemed to work fine.

Anybody can modify an existing list by putting the existing list's name (KlamathBasinCrisis) in the name field, and giving a new description. All these changes are logged-- I can revert the accidents.

No, this register is mainly to document often used, but nonexistent users. However, the functionality you seek will exist in the future.

How about this as a category: Enviralists Enviralists >covering the enviro whackos and their plots to cleanse America of Americans! As an example stupid ESA rules, Protecting Salmon over humans, Trees more important than logging families!

That sounds like a good one, You, Sierrawasp and Carry_Okie I would guess would be heavy contributors!

If you are interested in a topic area why don't you do an active search for the latest post's in that topic area using the scheme as described here?

To me it seems much more efficient!

John, I'm not sure if it's doable, but if anyone can co it, I know it's you (suck up!). Could the bump lists be customized so that people can register on a list. Then when the list is entered in the "To:" field everyone on the list is notified.

Example: I want to notify everyone who's interested in 2nd Amendment issues that there's new legislation being intiated. I type "bang_list" in the "To:" box. Everyone who has registerd to have their name added to the list will be notified.

Could this work similar to the "All" function?

You don't put your name on the List!

You have to initiate a search for the threads that have been "tagged" or "Indexed" .

Just go to the OFFICIAL BUMP LIST register and click on the topic list you want to look up!

Just set up a topic list for Anthrax_Scare_List to tag articles relating to the Anthrax scare!

If you see an article regarding this topic just put

Anthrax_Scare_List

in the reply field in addition to the other names you place there!

What about old articles , say on the bang_list and calpowercrisis?

Will this scheme pick up some of older threads?

OK, John - I **think** that I understand this. I went to the "official bump_list registry" at http://www.freerepublic.com/perl/bump-list, and added the new group Hugh Hewitt, with an appropriate description.

So far, so good.
Then I went to a few relevent threads, and posted a reply To:Hugh Hewitt - and got the *Hugh Hewitt replies posted.

Problem is, I went back and MODIFIED the description - two or three times - to get it to display properly, and NOW the listing on http://www.freerepublic.com/perl/bump-list does NOT work.

It seems that the Hugh Hewitt listed on that page now points to http://www.freerepublic.com/perl/involved?group=81 - which has no threads, and NOT the original http://www.freerepublic.com/perl/involved?group=75 - which does.

I hope that this is a short term glitch, right?

(The old-fashioned Search for Articles + Replies to:"Hugh Hewitt" still works.)

I notice that on the posting page, the recipients' names are now checked for correctness. If name not found, it says "Could not find anybody named 'invalidfreepername'".

Is it possible to put a "freeper name search link" on the posting page, so when a correctness check happens and finds no corresponding name, we can spawn another window and browse, say, an alphabetical list of all freeper names and list names? Or show possibilities for the nearest names to the incorrect name typed (including names of lists)?

Hi, I tried to edit but instead created a new list called Hillary List. And the Hillary one that I made first, is still there.

How can I delete one or the other?
