Isn't their "goal" preordained? That's not defeatism (although I admit I wallow in it these days) but it leaves me wondering and worrying.

Rather than thinking in terms of preordination, shouldn't we instead think of God's omniscience? He doesn't ordain evil, He simply allows it. It is up to mankind to fight the good fight on earth.
