The United States has called for an immediate end to Israeli incursions in the Palestinian-controlled territories, charging they did nothing but "complicate" an already difficult situation.
"Israeli entries into Palestinian-controlled areas are not helpful, complicate the situation and should be halted," a State Department official requesting anonymity said.
The directive came after three people were fatally shot by Israeli troops near the West Bank town of Bethlehem, bringing the total number of dead today to six, with more than 28 injured in the lethal game of brinkmanship being played out in the historic city.
"All sides must now act in a manner that helps restore trust and confidence and avoid steps that inflame the situation and make more difficult measures to achieve calm," the official added.
Today's message was just the latest in a series of appeals from the United States over the course of the year-long Palestinian uprising or intifada for both sides to take steps to end violence that has killed more than 700 and has no discernible end in sight.
Meanwhile an Israeli embassy source here said Israeli Foreign Minister Shimon Peres is to meet his US counterpart Mr Colin Powell Tuesday in Washington.
Mr Peres, due to arrive Sunday in the US capital, also plans to address the American Jewish Congress, and will on Monday spend time in the US Senate while also meeting members of the congressional pro-Israel lobby known as AIPAC.
I don't see anyone calling Powell an anti-Semite.

The Muslims inside the PLO had been slaughtering Christians in the south of Lebanon in the hopes of driving them out and turning it into a Palestinians state and a launching pad against Israel. Yes, the Christian militia went into the camps, ostensibly to extract 200 known terrorists, and went on a bloody rampage killing 2000 Palestinians. Can't condone it, but I can't say I wholly blame them for losing it. They had been assaulted for 10 years by Muslims. The Muslim PLO had assassinated their president, had their countrymen drawn and quartered in the streets, raped and murdered -- they even cut off the breasts of a local leaders' daughter and sent her body to him in a sack.
Wherever the PLO goes, from Jordan to Lebanon to Israel, they leave death and destruction in their wake. The PLO, led by Yassir Arafat, is perhaps the most brutal racist scum of all the scum in the entire region. The sooner Israel gets the PLO out of the region the better. Of all the people in the middle east, Arafat deserves death, and if that cannot be accomplished, he is the one who belongs in the Hague to be tried for his war crimes in Lebanon. But what do you expect from a man of his breeding? He is the nephew of the Mufti Hajj Al-Husseini, a man who recruited Muslims in WW2 to fight and kill Americans on behalf of Nazi Germany.

Back during that period I thought that Israel was the best thing since sliced bread. I extolled the cunning, bravery and audacity of Sharon. A BRILLIANT general. I laughed that the pathetic "antics" of the PLO. It was like a Road Runner cartoon. . . . all of the PLO's leaders and tactics were from ACME. . . . Israel, the roadrunner, always kicking the shit out of the idiot coyote . . . the coyote ALWAYS getting his clock cleaned.

I "forgave" Israel when justice (of sorts) was conferred upon Sharon. Unfortunately he was rehabilitated and slowly, gradually Israel has shed Her unquestioned moral authority.
When Arafat refused the peace agreement last year he showed that the Palestinians are still "shopping at ACME."
When Sharon made his "march on the Wall" last year he showed that he was . . . still Sharon.
Isreal does itself well by not putting up with any more lies of Arafatt, and Arafatt should not put up with the lies of the extremists he supports. A member of the Isreali government was brutally murdered. If one of our government officials were deliberately targeted by a terrorist organization, I would certainly hope our President would not be as patient with our enemies as the leader of Isreal has been with the Palestinians. With what happened on 911, our nation is still at risk, and our sovereignty in constant jeopardy. Isreal has been patient with these people for too long.
The Asian Time article about Colin Powell gives the appearance of propaganda, as well. The article implied that Mr. Powell hasn't been beaming in public places as much as the media would like. It seems to me that Mr. Powell is doing his job. His job requires a level head, not that of pompous egomaniac racing to photo ops to promote some hidden agenda. We got enough of that from the previous administration.
It is always best to research the authors, and not always believe in anonymous ghosts.

terrorism is terrorism and those killing Israelis are connected to those who killed at the WTC.
That is undeniable, and we should realize that the Israelis are simply doing work that WE pledged.....to go after ALL those who aided, habored, provided comfort, sustenance, etc.
