ISLAMABAD: Three British and two American Muslims, who went to Afghanistan to fight against the United States, were killed in the US-led bombing of the Afghan capital, an Islamic group said on Sunday.
"All of them had gone to Afghanistan in early October to wage jehad, (holy war) against the unjust policies of America," Hasan Butt, leader of the al-Muhajiroun said by telephone from Pakistan's eastern city of Lahore.
"We have learned from our contacts that they were martyred by the American bombing on Wednesday," he said.
Two of the British Muslims - Aftab Manzoor and Afzal Munir - came from Luton while the third - Yasir Khan - was from Crawley, he said.
The identities of the two Americans were not immediately known, Butt, who is a British subject, said. He said the five were not members of al-Muhajiroun, a Muslim political organization.
Al-Muhajiroun is one of the several international Islamic groups which operate in Pakistan to promote what they call an "Islamic renaissance" and the establishment of a true Islamic state.
"We think that the government of President Pervez Musharraf is illegitimate and we want to overthrow it," Butt said. "We give financial support to those who want to join the jehad and help them establish contacts with the military groups

It has struck me as odd that the media and government have pointed to demestic terrorists as the probable culprits of the anthrax attacks. It seems even more odd that they suspect right wingers rather than the most obvious domestic suspects: Muslim Americans. Just an observation...

This is the first time I can honestly say I'm glad someone has died from the bombing. The others deaths are unfortunate, but these are glorious.

IT also is odd that the Taleban deny involvement in terrorism and then acknowledge of having operatives living abroad. If war were declared, spies found on US soil, i.e. pro-Taleban people not wearing a uniform, would be subject to execution. But we are a bunch of pussies and would not dare do something that would harm the liberals.

Those two might have been American-born, but they were NOT Americans. And if they were naturalized citizens, then we have some flaws in the system.

It seems even more odd that they suspect right wingers rather than the most obvious domestic suspects: Muslim Americans. Not odd at all. There are two reasons for this. First of all, the media are trying to get ahead of the justifiable demand for retribution using weapons of mass destruction on the likely state-sponsored perpetrators of bioterrorism on our soil.
Secondly, we saw during the 51-day siege of the Branch Davidians how much the media love to demonize gun-toting Christians (and even if Koresh himself was a heretic, a lot of his followers did seem to be Christians, even if somewhat misled).
Waging war on right-wingers of any sort, especially of the homegrown white male variety, gives the media a huge collective multiple orgasm. The VRWC (Vast Right-Wing Conspiracy) is their preferred enemy by far.

The largest antisemitic group by far in America is the Nation of Islam. Farrakhan is out ranting out how injust America fighting back is. Then we have the Indymedia/IAC crowd which got tens of thousands on the streets to try to burn down Seattle and which also opposes our reaction to the attacks. These groups are never mentioned as suspects in the media. And they have well over 1,000,000 members. How large are those evil right wing extremist groups? A couple dozen (most of whom are FBI agents anyway)?
